Personalized Learning in Karol Houston's Classroom
Karol Houston, 4th grade teacher at BIES, is opting for more student choice when showing mastery in their math curriculum this year. One activity the students enjoyed this past 9 weeks was "You be the Teacher" day. Before her students took the Math benchmark, they were given a topic that was covered in Math during the 9 week period. They were allowed to trade topics , work by themselves or with a group, and choose how to present their topic to their classmates. Some chose to video themselves, some made a Google Slide presentation, others did Smartboard presentations and some chose to make posters. It was wonderful to witness the student collaboration, and the presentations were amazing. I asked Ms. Houston how her students did on their test and before she could answer I heard..."I got a 100 on mine", "so did I" and "he got a 100 too!" Those students loved the challenge and being involved in their learning! They were so proud.
Thank you for your dedication to our students. I appreciate you and the effort put forth on a daily basis. Remember, you are making a difference.
