Principal Corner
Greetings Roadrunner Families! I write this with a very grateful heart. Our entire learning community: teachers, support staff, students, parents and guardians, continue to prove that we can accomplish ANYTHING, no matter the obstacles and challenges, so long as we take personal responsibility and work together. What a FANTASTIC start to the school year it has been! We have had district-level leadership visit our building and they have expressed multiple times "how easy" everyone makes it look to be engaged in in-person learning during a pandemic. What we all fully acknowledge is there has been nothing easy about this. The smooth way in which our school day operates, the safe ways in which our students learn and our teachers instruct, and the efficient ways we accomplish so much each and every day, is the result of intentional, purposeful, and thoughtful planning and implementation on EVERYONE's part. I thank our staff for their incredible work to prepare and maintain a caring, effective learning community for our students; I thank our parents and guardians for entrusting your children to us and for helping them come prepared each day; and I thank our students for demonstrating grit and perseverance.
We have MUCH to celebrate this year! Last spring, our Roadrunners raised $43,000 for our learning community! This has allowed us to purchase a Gaga Ball Pit for our school, provide funds for each classroom, put $26,000 in our playground fund, provide professional development opportunities for staff, and contribute to the bleachers that soon will be installed in our new gym! THANK YOU to our students, families, and staff for MAKING THESE DREAMS A REALITY for Robert Frost/Challenge Center! While the celebrations did not occur as we had envisioned last spring, rest assured plans are in the works for last year's top-fundraising classrooms to turn staff members into human cheeseballs. We refuse to let COVID ruin the fun! We just need to be very thoughtful in how we carry this out, but nonetheless, cheeseballs are going to fly!
Let's get ready to have our best year yet in Roadrunner land. As I share with our staff and students each morning, let's all make it a great day, a great year, by being respectful and kind, being responsible and being safe!
Best wishes, Mrs. Gillette
