Professional Expectations Survey

On December 17th, Rhonda Counts, Mariah Doolin and I sat down to go over Ridgeview's data from the Professional Expectations Survey. One of the action steps from our meeting was to cover topics in the weekly newsletter for reminders and clarification for our staff at Ridgeview. I will cover 1-2 a week in newsletters.

Does the school, building, and/or department you work in have a yearly updated staff handbook?

What is the common expectation in your school, building, department for staff start and end times?

  • This question had mixed answers
  • As we discussed this as a team, it was clear why some answers were mixed
  • Some staff members have a specified start and end times (Secretary, Health Tech, Librarian, and some paras), while some staff members start and end times based on student needs (some paras)
  • There were also differences regarding how many minutes before and after the bell rings with some employees marking 15 mins, 20 mins, or 30 mins as the expectation. The majority of teachers (7) marked 15 minutes before and after the bell rings. Five (5) teachers marked 20 minutes before and after the bell rings. Two (2) teachers marked that they have specified start and end times.
  • Answer: Page 5 of our handbook states 15 minutes before/after the bell rings is the expectation for certified staff (7:40 a.m. to 3:40 p.m.). Classified staff have varied schedules according to different student needs and job types. For example our secretary begins at 7:30 a.m., while some paras clock in at 7:45, and other paras clock in at 8:00. Paras that clock in early, leave early. Paras that clock in late, leave later. It all works out to about 34 hours a week for paras, give or take a few minutes.

Next week we will cover a few more items!

FOCUS TEAM MEETING - 1/14/16 @ 3:30 p.m.

Please join the RV Leadership Team in discussing community outreach plans for January-May. We started a list at December's staff meeting and will work on finalizing this list at this Focus Team Meeting. All RV Staff members are invited, classified/certified, everyone! We would love your input. We will meet in the Teacher's Lounge. If you are curious of the list of topics we have brainstormed it can be found at: https://goo.gl/AG3v5p

Please RSVP so we know how many people to plan on. Amber will bring snacks!

Too often, discussions about school funding get derailed by simplistic sound bites that may sound good, but are misleading at best. Here are a few:
