Home Field Ambassadors: Home Field Advantage (HFA) is when all Raiders feel safe and part of a community where they are supported, empowered and united. It takes many people to truly create the HFA. We feel it’s important to recognize those persons who support and help to provide the HFA for our staff, as well as, our students. If you would like to nominate someone as a Home Field Ambassador, please email JoAnne Larson sjlarson@powayusd.com with your nominee and the “why”.
Math and English Diagnostics:
Beginning this week, students will be taking the i-Ready diagnostic assessment. This assessment is unique in that it will give us specific information about what your child knows and what he/she needs to work on next in math and reading. The purpose of this assessment is not to give your child a score or grade, but instead to determine how best to support your child’s learning.
Students will take the reading assessment the week of September 21, and the math assessment the week of September 28. Students will take the i-Ready assessment over the course of multiple days in short 45-minute segments. Language arts and math teachers will be proctoring the assessment live over Zoom during part of their instructional block. Students will access the i-Ready assessment by going to MyPlan and finding the i-Ready icon.
In regular circumstances, students take their i-Ready assessments at school, but during these special times they might need your help in providing a supportive environment to take assessments at home. The i-Ready diagnostic assessment is an adaptive assessment; students are only expected to answer 50% of the questions correctly. It is important that you do not help your child with understanding or answering questions. Your child will benefit from your support and encouragement to ensure the data provided to educators accurately reflects what they know and what they need to work on next so that our teachers can plan for student success. Click here for guidance and tools to help when your student is taking an i-Ready assessment at home.
Zoom: Parents, please do not ask a teacher a question during a student Zoom, whether that is during class time or Office Hours. If you have a question for a teacher, please email or call that teacher.
