2A Health Snack Sale
This week students heard a story about Wangari Mathai, a woman from Kenya who began The Green Belt Movement. Wangari Mathai was responsible for teaching people the importance of trees and plants. After hearing the story, a few students suggested that we do the same thing - plant trees. When I asked how, they suggested we have a bake sale to raise the money.
This type of thinking and planning is a perfect example of students being "Positive, Active, Global Citizens" and I couldn't be more proud!
On Wednesday, May 13, 2A students are asked to bring a healthy snack to sell during recess times. Fruit kabobs, vegetable cups, fruit muffins, trail mixes or fruit bars are some examples of what we are expecting. Please: no chocolate or frosted treats. If there are nuts in something you send, please label!
If you are wondering about more ideas, the internet has tons!
Snacks should be brought to school Wednesday morning, before school.
Thank you!

Taking Care of Our Smiles
Students in 2A were visited by some dental clinicians from the US military base this week. They learned about the importance of brushing, flossing and eating right. They also received free toothbrushes, toothpaste and dental floss - hopefully, they are being put to good use.
Writer's Workshop
An important part of our Writer's Workshop is conferring with a partner. Students do this whenever they are brainstorming before beginning a new writing piece, if they get stuck while writing and when they are done. Though students still meet with me, getting suggestions and feedback from a peer can be very powerful.
Book Clubs
Students discussed the 1 or 2 most important parts of the stories they were reading this week and also explained why they thought it was important. This helps students to reflect more on what they are reading and to dig deeper into what the story is about.
Math
Students continued to learn about repeated addition and also began learning about arrays, number bonds and tape diagrams as they apply to repeated addition.
One of the ways we applied our learning was by playing a variety of related games for Thrilling Thursday.
