Teacher Requests
Beginning on May 1, parents may request a teacher for their child(ren) for the 2020-2021 school year. Please mail in your request(s) to Jason Cole, no later than Sunday, May 17th. Northview Elementary School, 902 Tyler Rd., Howards Grove, WI 53083. Please state the educational reason for your request, while thinking about the educational needs, learning style, and interests of your child and which teacher might be the best match. If you have any questions, I would be happy to listen to your interests and discuss your options with you.
Please do not email your requests to me! I get so many emails daily and do not want your request to be overlooked or lost. Please also understand that forming class groups is a complex process with many factors that need to be taken into account in order to create balanced classes. Parent requests will be considered and granted if possible. If there is a reason why your request cannot be granted, I will personally contact you to discuss the reasons why and other options.
** For your information, these are the classroom teachers as of now. Please realize that unexpected changes can happen at any time.

Character Counts
This month our theme is Determination. Determination is deciding it's worth it to finish what you started.
- Staying motivated is a challenge - especially at this time of the year. But finishing strong is one of the ways that you show your determination. Determination can take you a long way in this world. So keep your eyes on the prize this month, and remember that it's worth it to make it to the finish line and say, "I did it!"
Color Day: Tuesday, May 12
Color of the month: Brown
- Brown is the color of the earth and is comforting and nurturing.
- The color brown affects the mind and body by creating feelings of wholesomeness and peace.
Animal of the month: Bobcat
- Bobcats are about twice the size of house cats.
- They have long legs and big paws.
- Bobcats are creatures of determination: they are excellent hunters, stalking prey with stealth and patience, and then capturing their meals with one great leap.
Red Nose Day
Northview Families:
Last year, our school was chosen to be a feature school for NBC, Red Nose Day, and Comic Relief. This was so exciting!!! Here is the link to last year's video: https://youtu.be/phKAKz5iCdQ. One of the new fundraisers last year was the joke-ha-thon. The students did an amazing job and came up with some really funny jokes. Red Nose Day is continuing with the joke-ha-thon fundraising concept. I’ve attached a couple of links that share more about it.
Red Nose Day is something that is near and dear to my heart and the support from our students, staff, and community for Red Nose Day has been wonderful. It’s an opportunity for us to show our students how they can have a huge impact on the world through small acts of kindness. Please visit www.rednoseday.org site for more information about Red Nose Day.
In the past, we’ve had a coin drive and paid a dollar to share a joke at lunchtime. This year's school closure has changed our ability to raise money for Red Nose Day and ending childhood poverty. Red Nose Day has created opportunities for schools to create a fundraising page on their web page. Hasbro has committed to matching funds up to $50,000 of donations. Please join me in our pursuit of ending childhood poverty. If you are able to donate, please click on the link below.

Picking up Schoolwork and Supplies
The teachers and staff have been busy putting together school materials for their students to complete over the next couple of weeks. They'll be communicating with you about when your pick-up times will be (mainly JK - 2nd). I think one of the hardest things during pick-up is going to be fighting the urge to want to stay and talk with the teachers. We all want to embrace the opportunity to talk and stay connected, however, it is extremely vital for the safety and health of everyone that we move quickly through this process. Staff will hand you the packet of information through the passenger side window. We are hoping to move this process along quickly. We understand that you may need to have your child(ren) with you at the time of pick-up. Please remind your students that their teacher won't be able to high five or hug them as well as not have much time to talk. This is extremely difficult for all of us, but we need to fight the urge to socialize.
We are working on setting dates and times of pick-up for any of your child's items that me be left behind in their desks, lockers, and/or cubbies.

Feel free to add comments to the youtube page. It's a great way for me to connect with students while school is out. Morning Announcements will be posted at 9:00am and Read Alouds at 1:00pm each day Monday - Friday. I may have some other videos posted throughout the week.
Howards Grove PTO
The Howards Grove PTO is kicking off a series called “Family Night Dinner Series” over the next 5 weeks. We would love to take the opportunity to thank a few local businesses for the support they provide for our Family Nights throughout the year. These businesses deserve some “extra” support and advertisement during this difficult time.
Each week we will advertise a local business that supports our “Family Nights”. That week we encourage our Howards Grove Families to grab a take out meal (or delivery) from this business. Snap a picture of your family enjoying the meal and tag the Howards Grove PTO and the business in your picture to give a shout out of support!
Please know that no proceeds will go back to the PTO. We simply want to show our support and advertise for these great businesses in our community that support us throughout the year!

Self-Care Tip
Credit to account
Dear Parent or Guardian:
If you were charged a fee on your child's account that has since been refunded by the school, there is a credit on the account. If there were current charges due on the account, then the credit was applied to those charges.
To view your family account, please log in to Family Access through Skyward and click on the "Fee Management" tab on the left hand side of the screen. The current balance owed for each child will show at the top of the screen. Then click on "View Totals" near the first child's name to view the credit balance available on each student. These credits will remain on the student's account to be utilized for future fees.
If you have questions regarding the charges or credits on your child's account, please call their respective school.
