5th grade speakers for the Board Meeting
Dear Cumberland Families,
Students of all ages were excited for Valentine's day activities yesterday and Cumberland was overflowing with pink, red and purple. Thanks to all who helped children get valentines ready for classmates, to classroom volunteers, and to those of you who came up with such creative crafts for classes. There was so much love in the Cumberland air. It is clear that heart glasses were a theme this year!
Each year, we make a presentation to the School Board, sharing achievement and growth details and highlighting special activities and events from the previous twelve months at Cumberland. It was inspiring as we began brainstorming what to include in our report and, of course, there are way too many accomplishments and celebrations to include everything! At last night's presentation we had multiple fifth graders share an experience that has touched them deeply, along with many staff members who highlighted specific areas. We could not be more proud of everyone's work together at Cumberland!
We hope you can join us on March 5th for the re-scheduled parenting session with our North Shore Center consultant, Dr. Schwarz. "You Can Do It! Building Children's Independence and Self Efficacy for Success. 6:00-7:00 pm in the Cumberland library.
Reminder, no school for students Friday, February 23rd and Monday, February 26th.
Warm regards,
Jayne Heffron and Rebecca Salomon
Cumberland Board Meeting presenters

Newsies: Begins March 1st
Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged "newsies." When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what's right!
Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. Featuring the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” Newsies is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family and every audience. You don’t want to miss this one! Come join us for a night of live theater that will inspire the whole family!
