Job Description
- Install, configure, and support an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet systems or a segment of a network system.
- Monitor network to ensure network availability to all system users and may perform necessary maintenance to support network availability.
- May supervise computer user support specialists and computer network support specialists.
Salary Range
The median annual wage for network and computer systems administrators was $72,560 in May 2012. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $44,330, and the top 10 percent earned more than $115,180
Degree requirements
Most employers require a bachelor’s degree for network systems administrator positions, according to the BLS. Degrees in computer science or information science are most common, although some employers may accept candidates who majored in computer engineering or electrical engineering.
An associate’s degree combined with work experience may also be acceptable for some employers.
