Rigor, Relevance, and Engagement- December 2015

What are your next steps?

Think about your students and where you want them at the end of this year. I am always available to meet with you and talk about what your next steps may be. Do you want your students more engaged? Do you want them to be self-directed learners through PL strategies? Do you want to add more voice and choice for your students? More rigor? Whatever target you want to set for you or your students, I can help! Just let me know how I can help you! Thank you to everyone who has set sail on this journey with me! I can't wait to see all the great things 2016 will bring for the students of BES!

Rigor and Using the DOKs

I have attached three videos. Two videos depict what rigor looks like in the classroom and the other explains DOKs and how it relates to rigor. The teacher in the video is scaffolding the instruction for the students. She is starting at a lower level thinking activity and is moving them to the ultimate goal of higher level DOK. Even if you are teaching whole group the questions need a higher level of rigor and students need to be held to that standard. Choice boards should also have a high level of rigor. Creating rigorous classrooms is what will show student growth! Keep working on high expectations and holding the students accountable!
