A MESSAGE FROM MR. GRAHAM

Happy Friday!

I can't believe it's been one month since we started this school year. The time has flown by. Students have settled back into the routine of school and are doing a great job. It is fun being back together, in person, at school, listening to the great stories your students share along with hearing about their interests outside of school.

The Little Book of Lykke (pronounced Luuhkah) by Meik Wiking is a book about the Danish search of happiness. In the book there is a section on togetherness. Wiking describes that when we meet more often and spend quality time together people tend to be happier. Every morning our students have been participating in their classroom's morning meeting. During this short time in the morning, students are spending time together sharing celebrations, compliments, cares, and concerns with each other. Students are also learning and teaching others about the "Winkler Way". They are building a strong classroom and school community at Winkler School!

WHAT'S HAPPENING AROUND WINKLER SCHOOL?

THE DOG ATE MY CHROMEBOOK!

We have taken a new turn in the chapter of entertaining excuses for why homework isn't done. Going paperless or virtual creates new challenges for parents and students to take care of the equipment needed for learning. Here are a few helpful tips to make sure those Chromebooks and chargers are in tip-top shape each day.

* Chromebooks don't like liquid. Don't pack the Chromebook next to a full water bottle and be careful when drinking while doing homework.

Carefully clean your Chromebook with a soft cloth damp with rubbing alcohol or specialty electronics cleaner. DO NOT spray cleaner directly on it.

* Make sure the Chromebook is secure - meaning it won't fall out of a backpack.

* Keep the Chromebook and the chargers out of the hands of small children and pets.

* If it is determined that there has been excessive wear and tear on a Chromebook, families will be charged for repairs.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP REMINDERS

When dropping off or picking up students, please be patient with other drivers and remain in the pick-up line until you can safely move through to the end of the line. Please do not try to pass other vehicles on the right to get around them. This creates a safety issue for families crossing the street to the parking lot. Please also remember to TURN RIGHT out of the pick-up line AWAY from the busses. Cars should NOT be turning left up the bus lane for safety sake.

2021/2022 SCHOOL YEAR: PRE-SCHOOL SCREENINGS

Preschool screenings for the 2021-2022 school year will be held throughout the Burlington Area School District for any child between the ages of birth to 5 years old who is not attending 5 year old kindergarten.

If you are a parent of a child within this age range and are concerned about his/her development, you are encouraged to attend one of the upcoming screenings.

This screening is NOT in place of 4K or 5K kindergarten screening, which is typically offered in the Spring.

September 16, 2020 at BASD District Office: 100 N Kane St

8:30-11:30 AM and 3:00-5:00 PM
