The Carleton Chronicle
A weekly update from Carleton Middle School
Thank you Jersey Mike's (and Renee) for the donation to Carleton Middle School in the amount of $852.98. Please visit them on Van Dyke (just North of 15 MI. Rd.) and thank them personally.
H.A.G.S.
I'd like to offer some unsolicited advice for the coming weeks of summer vacation.
1) Encourage your son / daughter to do something academic related this summer. Set a timer daily for 20-30 minutes to have them read. Have them login to Moby Max or Khan Academy and complete some math problems. Consider doing a small project together on something that interests them.
2) I stole this from some other source or person but when you hear, "I'm so BORED" consider the following representation for BORED.
B - Been Creative?
O - Outside Play?
R - Read a book?
E - Exercised?
D - Done service?
3) This leads me to my next point. Consider having a "Chore Chart." Middle school-aged children are plenty old enough to help around the home with the daily grind. Have them gather the trash and dispose of it properly. One day they can vacuum or sweep the floor. Learning how to do dishes or empty the dishwasher is well within their means. Getting them going on laundry or learning how to clean the bathrooms is also age appropriate.
4) Lastly, and maybe most importantly, LIMIT THEIR SCREEN TIME. Maybe have them complete their chores (listed above) before they earn 30 minutes of video games, Instagram, or Snapchat. Or, set that timer (mentioned above) to read a book before they earn phone privileges.
I hope you all have a safe and restful summer and whether or not you are taking a vacation or a "stay-cation" I hope you enjoy the added time with your children over the summertime. We already have several things in place for next school year to improve Carleton Middle School and help our students achieve new heights academically, socially, and emotionally!

Happy Father's Day
I'd like to take a moment to thank all of our male role models in our schools for all of their support, guidance, leadership, and dedication to our young people. I hope you all have a restful and relaxing day.
Going to the doctor? Get your physical now!
As you make your summer appointments please consider getting a physical in order to play sports. 7th and 8th grade students wishing to try out for sports teams will need a physical on file prior to tryouts in order to participate. Any physical during the summer months (after April 15, 2019) will be sufficient for the 2019-2020 sports seasons. Also, many clinics offer "walk-in" physicals for a reduced price and greater level of convenience. Be sure to visit our website for more information.
