Review, Reinforce and Practice
The Next Two Weeks
Alabama State Department of Education Superintendent Dr. Eric Mackey has reiterated that systems must create equitable learning opportunities during the state-mandated closure. To ensure equity across the district, we are using the next two weeks for review, reinforcement, and practice. TCS educators have worked during spring break to get us over the closure. The plan is part of a larger plan that will be developed into phases. More will be shared later this week.
These two weeks are not a replacement for our teachers, but a plan to help parents supplement the work you have done. Therefore, we have added Woodland Forrest, Tuscaloosa Magnet Elementary and Middle, Verner, Rock Quarry and The Alberta School of Performance Arts to our Edgenuity platform. This is an online automated progression for reading and math synced with the last Scantron results. It creates individual learning paths for each student.
For the students not able to access digital material, we have created activities that students can do at home. These activities are not worksheets. The activities are simple, but will keep students' brains engaged and parents not having to become teachers. We have also created a one-pager for families with the various TCS online resources students can utilize. Our librarians have also created activities to use through myOn, Overdrive, and traditional books.
While the students are engaged in this independent virtual learning journey, we are developing virtual meetings with teachers working with tech coaches and literacy coaches to create lessons that are within TCS virtual expectations and requirements. We are utilizing these first two weeks to equip all of our teachers on TCS eLearning opportunities.
Our plan has been created to keep in mind that TCS parents may have multiple children in multiple grade levels they need to assist with at-home learning.
