Newsletter Term 4 Week 6

Principal's Message
Tēnā koutou katoa
The wild weather has certainly brought about some disruption and chaos for everyone over the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately this impacted our Athletics, both our school event and the Inter-schools, but at least we were able to get the bulk of this completed. The Inter-School event did not have a postponement date set as this did not suit all of the schools involved so if this changes, we will let you know. We are lucky to be able to host some sports events and activities to keep our tamariki active during wet lunchtimes, but this is certainly a challenge to be needing hats and sunscreen as well as an umbrella or jacket all in the same day!
We are experiencing lots of illness in a couple of classrooms in particular, as well as a number of covid cases. If anyone in your whānau has symptoms, please test them as we are trying to avoid the spread of this especially in the last few weeks of school. One of our neighbouring schools has had to close for on-site learning this week because of a large outbreak, so let's work together to try and prevent this for our kura. If you need any tests, we can help with this. Just reach out to one of our team in the office and they will help you arrange this.
We have a couple of busy weeks ahead, we are looking forward to everyone going on different trips, our Year 6 graduation at their overnight camp, and celebrating successes with our final prizegiving. I hope you are keeping on top of everything happening and all the notices! It is a crazy busy time for everyone, so remember to take care and be kind to yourselves.

Week 5 & 6
The photos this week speak of the fun and imagination happening during the afternoons at kura!
Wearing a hat in Term 1 and 4 is compulsory. Well done to those tauira that are remembering to wear their hat out to play. It is important to ensure that these are named.
Celebrating Successes
Congratulations to Seranayde Moananui Barbarich who placed 1st for 7 year olds in "Round The Bridges"
We love to celebrate the successes of our tauira outside of school. Be sure to let the teacher know or email kyliem@pekapekarau.school.nz
Student Opportunity
We know that we have some amazing singers in our kura. This looks to be an exciting opportunity!

I am the Staff Board Member.
As a teacher, Deputy Principal, Board Member and local community member, education is and has always been of high interest to me. My focus has been on making student achievement a priority of my role in education throughout the years.
I have previously been a Board Member as a parent representative at my children’s school.
I am looking forward to contributing in an additional way at Pekapekarau and we have a fantastic team of parent representatives to work alongside. I look forward to further community consultation in understanding what whanau want for their children at their kura.
