Being a strong leader will help you throughout college and the rest of your life. High school is a great time to start honing your leadership skills.
1. Identify opportunities
Find your passion and let your values guide you. Think about how you can use them to make your school better.
2. Build on your strengths
Whether you’re a helper or a doer, your innate skills can help you identify a unique way to lead. Identify your interests and apply them to a need.
3. Plot a course to your goal
Each morning, identify one thing you can do that day to make progress.
4. Listen actively to others
The most successful business people make relationship building and active listening the core of their strategy.
5. Learn from your mistakes.
Adopt a growth mindset and resolve to learn from your mistakes. It’s natural to feel let down and disappointed if your plan flops.
Full Article from College ExpressWhat Does the Term "Stacking" Mean in Financial Aid?
A way to get the cost down even lower for out-of-state public schools is called "stacking" - they allow you to get the WUE and other scholarships from their school. FOR EXAMPLE University of Colorado, Colorado Springs located one hour outside of Denver offers the WUE automatically if admitted to all majors except nursing (but they offer an out of state Nursing PEAK scholarship similar to WUE). All can STACK a Presidential Out of State Scholarship (4 areas, Athletics, Leadership, Excellence in Arts and Excellence in Sciences) If a student gets both, the price of college is similar to attending a CSU.
