Jack & June Furr Elementary
GROWING LEADERS! April 11th, 2021
What's Happening in the Furr Fold!
SUMMER IS COMING! Don't blink because April will be over! May will bring free time, summer camps and vacations. I ask two things of you. First, we are quickly approaching the finish line of the school year. Like any race, we want our students to finish the race STRONG and give it everything they have to the very end! We need your help to ensure that our students will do this. Please be their coach to the end, May 21st, and help them finish this year...STRONG!
Secondly, summer is a time for rest and relaxation. I ask that you read with your children over the summer. Read to them... and let them read to you on a daily basis. FOSTER the love of Reading! Kids love to be read to by their parents and it's great for them to see and hear YOU read to them. Don't underestimate the influence you have on their wanting to read. You are their primary influence on the importance of reading...so I thank you for your help with this!
Let's talk masks. Parents, please make sure your child is bringing a mask to school on a daily basis. All students need a mask on their person but not all are required to wear them. Currently, all 4th and 5th graders, and adults are obligated to wear a mask. And, I highly encourage all students to wear a mask. MY main goal is to keep all students and families healthy, protected and safe. Let's finish the year strong! Please send your child to school with a mask.
STREAM @FurrElem: We had a great turn out for our first ever Furr STREAM 2021. Thanks so much to those who participated. Be sure to check out all of our projects here. You will need to be logged in with a Prosper ISD Student account to view the projects.
Parents, please make sure you are setting your child up for success by getting your student to school on time. THIS IS A VALUABLE SKILL they need. When a child is late, they are missing valuable instruction for the day. Instruction starts at 7:45! Our Student Tardies are increasing and I need your help to prevent this habit from forming!
The 4th Grade Writing STAAR TEST will resume on Monday, April 12th. Please make sure they have a great night sleep, eat a nutritious breakfast and arrive on time to school.
Picnic Lunches continue to be a huge success here at Furr Elementary. The huge smiles on both our parents and students faces is priceless! Thank you for being a huge part of their lives! The lunch schedule is as follows:
Kinder 10-10:30
1st: 10:40-11:10
2nd: 11:20-11:50
3rd: 12:00 - 12:30
4th: 1:20-1:50
5th: 12:40-1:10

LITTLE FREE LIBRARY:
Studies have repeatedly shown that books in the hands of children have a meaningful impact on improving literacy. The more books in or near the home, the more likely a child will learn and love to read. With that in mind, we have opened a Little Free Library in front of Furr Elementary. You are welcome to take a book and/or leave a book. If the library is full and you would like to donate books for later, please have your student bring them to the library or front office. We will use these to replenish the library as needed. Enjoy reading!
Parents, please remember to answer the 4 Health screener questions and Nurse Notification daily. If you answer yes to any of the questions, please submit the screener and wait for our Nurse to get in touch with you. The safety and health of all of our students and staff is vital to the success of educating our children.
STAAR TEST Dates are on the horizon. Parents! I wanted to make you aware of these dates. They will affect our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. I also ask that if your child has a scheduled doctor's appointment on these dates, to please reschedule it. There will be more information coming soon to brief both the in-person and virtual students on testing procedures. Thank you, in advance, for your patience and support with these testing dates.

HEALTH SCREENER.....Please look at this Daily!

Rainy Day Procedures:
Rainy Day Procedures For Furr Elementary:
1. If there is heavy rain and/or lightning at the time of dismissal, ALL walking students (including 2nd-5th graders) will be held in the students classroom until a parent picks up their student from the Gym Doors. This means you can still pick up like normal with your umbrella if you would like! At the time of the rain/lightning ending, we will allow 2nd-5th graders to walk home without supervision as they usually do. Any Kinder/1st grade students(unaccompanied) still in the building when the rain ends will be brought to the front office for a parent to pick up.
2. If a parent calls during rain at dismissal, we WILL take a transportation change (even after 1:30PM).
3. Walkers will NOT automatically be car riders. This will only happen if a transportation change comes in. If you want to be sure your child is picked up in a car, please call the office at 469-219-2280.
4. Parents, please make sure you have your transportation tag (family #). We will not release any student to an adult, without your transportation tag(family#) and an ID.
Remember, we will not let your student walk home alone in heavy rain/lightening. The safeguard is in place that if we don’t get a transportation change, the student can still be picked up from the Gym Doors by walking up with your transportation tag (family #).
Thank you for your help.
FACE COVERINGS:
FACE COVERINGS @FURRELEMENTARY
Face coverings are required for all adults, 4th graders and 5th graders at Furr Elementary. We highly encourage ALL students, Pre-K to 5th grade, to wear a mask. All masks, brought from home, need to follow the PISD dress code requirements. Parents, please pack a mask in your child's backpack where it is readily accessible in case your child needs one. Thank you for your help in this matter.
Here at Furr Elementary, we will continue to follow and implement all guidelines set forth by our governor, local authorities and our district. We continue to enforce face coverings, washing hands, using hand sanitizer and social distancing on a continual basis. Please check our district website, Covid Dashboard, for any and all updates from our district.
PICKING UP YOUR STUDENT DURING SCHOOL HOURS:
PICKING UP YOUR CHILD DURING SCHOOL HOURS:
Parents that need to pick up their child from school during the school day should remain in their car and call the front desk @ 469-219-2280. School staff will then escort the child out to the car and verify identification before releasing the child.
MORNING ARRIVAL:
MORNING ARRIVAL: DROPPING OFF YOUR CHILD: We have 2 areas designed for dropping off your student safely, the front (A-L) car line and the back (M-Z) car line. Please DO NOT drop your child off at the bike racks. This is not a drop off zone. Thank you for your help in this area.
