The Fairview Connection
NOVEMBER 11, 2022
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
It has been a productive week here at Fairview! Thanks to all of the parents and guardians who joined us for parent teacher conferences last night. We have one more evening of formal conferences scheduled on Tuesday evening. Please contact your child’s teacher if you would like to schedule a conference for Tuesday. At our PTO meeting on Monday, I received some feedback from a parent that it would be helpful to structure the newsletter in a slightly different format using headings to make it easier for parents to refer back to and find information as needed. Please read below for some various updates from me and be sure to check out the entire newsletter below for more information. I want to thank all of the veterans in our Fairview community for their service to our country as we recognize and celebrate Veterans Day today, and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus
Fairview Principal
Fairview Giving Tree: Each year at Fairview, we have a tradition of helping our families who have some financial needs by purchasing gifts for their children to enjoy during the holiday season. I am always so inspired and impressed with how our community comes together to make sure we take care of one another in this way. If you are interested in purchasing a gift for a Fairview family so our students have something to open and enjoy for the holidays, please sign up using this link. All wrapped gifts are due back at Fairview no later than Monday, December 19th so we have time to prepare them for pick up. Please put a note on each gift to indicate the family number and gift description to help make sure each gift is delivered to the right family. We will be updating the link with more families' wish lists over the next few weeks, so be sure to check the link each week if all items are claimed quickly. Thank you for your generosity and support!
PTO Holiday Shoppe: Our wonderful Fairview PTO is hosting its second annual Holiday Shoppe on Wednesday, November 30th from 4:30-7:30 pm in the multi-purpose room. This exciting event will give students a chance to purchase some gifts for their loved ones at an affordable cost this holiday season. In order to make this event a success, we need several volunteers. We will need help with set up from 3:00-4:30 pm, cashiers and helpers from 4:30-6:00 pm (shift one) and 6:00-7:30 pm (shift two), and clean up helpers from 7:30-9:00 pm. To sign up for any of these time slots, please click this link. For more general information about the Holiday Shoppe, click here.
Student Council Announcements: Our first Student Council school store for this year opens on Monday, November 14th. On various Mondays throughout the school year, the school store will be open for students to purchase school supplies and other fun items. All items cost $1 or less. Also, I’m excited to share that the Student Council will be collecting new coloring books and crayons for Lemons of Love. These items will be used for care packages for cancer patients during the holiday season. Donations can be dropped off in the front foyer between November 14th and December 16th. Thank you for participating!

*Tax will be added to all purchases
Evening Hours:
Thursday, November 10 and Tuesday, November 15
From 3:40 to 6:30pm
STUDENTS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT TO ENTER THE BOOK SALE DURING EVENING HOURS.
DRESS FOR OUTDOOR RECESS
As the weather turns cooler, please make sure your children are dressed to go out for recess. Unless it is raining or the temperature /wind chill is too cold (15 degrees or below, real-feel temperature) the students will go out every day for recess. Please write your student’s last name on a tag in their coat as we already have a lot of lost coats and sweatshirts.
All students will go out with their class unless we have a doctor’s note limiting their participation. If a student has been ill and he/she is not feeling well enough to participate in all the activities of the school day, perhaps another day at home will insure a healthy return to school.

They must be 24 hours free of these symptoms without the use of medication to relieve the symptom. If you have any questions about this please feel free to contact Kelly Brunning, the school nurse, at 847-394-7320. or kbrunning@d57.org.
