The effect on the brain is inflamation around the nerves that flow through the infected area.
Affects on the brain
The most serious form of meningitis is the bacterial form. Meningitis causes inflamation around the nerves that flow throught the infected area. If you have a lot of inflamation around the nerve root it could cause deafness.
Symptoms
Symptoms include sudden high fever, severe headache, general poor feeling, & a stiff neck.
Prognosis
The prognosis depends on a persons age, which bateria causes the disease, & how early the disease was diagnosed. Up to 10% of the people with meningitis will die & the surviers will have long term consequences such as hearing loss.
