Update and Attendance
April 3, 2020
Dear South Middle School Families,
The staff at South Middle School hopes you are all doing well. With Governor Bergum’s order for students to stay at home for the foreseeable future, we officially started distance learning on Wednesday, April 1st. Making changes in short order has been challenging, but we will continue to learn, refine, and improve how we connect with and facilitate learning for our students.
Attendance Procedures
Each day that we are scheduled to have school, Monday through Thursday, students will be asked to check in for attendance. Students should watch for and accept the invitation to join their grade-level Class in Google Classroom. Students will need to check-in for attendance purposes some time each day (Monday through Thursday) between 7:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. Starting on Monday, April 6th, daily student attendance will be monitored and recorded in PowerSchool. If a student is not checking in and completing learning expectations, a South staff member will contact parent(s)/guardian(s) accordingly.
Student Emails and Google Classroom
Students should be checking their school Gmail accounts and Google Classroom at least daily as we move into distance education. Parents - please check in with your students to see this is being done so they do not fall behind.
If you have a question for a specific teacher, please use the GFPS Directory to communicate with the teacher: https://www.gfschools.org/domain/1204
We will continue to update you as we monitor and adjust distance learning during this pandemic. Your support during these trying times is much appreciated! We are looking forward to the time when we can all return to South Middle School. Until then, stay safe and be well.
Dr. Joel Schleicher, Principal
