Major Saver sales underway
The Harrisonville Public School Foundation is once again offering Major Saver cards for sale through students in grades K-5. Students received sales packets on January 9 and they are selling the $15 Buy One, Get One Free offer cards until Wednesday, January 22. Proceeds from the sales of the discount cards directly support the participating schools and the activities of the Harrisonville Public School Foundation. Last year, the Foundation and participating schools raised more than $14,000 through the sale of Major Saver cards.
The 2020 participating businesses include: Paradise Park, Price Chopper, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Kurzweil’s, Casey’s, Apple Barrel (in Sapp Brothers), Mazzio’s, The Garage, Brewbakers, Houlihan’s, Dunkin’ Donuts (in Sapp Brothers), Sonic, Captain D’s, Dairy Queen, Forged by Fire, Aaron’s Family Fun Center, El Maguey, Buffalo Wild Wings, Brick House Coffee, and Daylight Donuts.
Major Saver cards can also be purchased online at www.majorsaver.com. All cards purchased online will be mailed directly to the customer.
Another option this year is the Major Saver app which can be downloaded on Android or iOS devices. Once you download the app, you can purchase a Major Saver card for any community and it will be available right on your phone. The sale can also be designated to any student in our schools.
Cards are also available for purchase at the District Administration office, 503 S. Lexington from 7:30-4 p.m. daily through January 22nd.
Major Saver cards make great gifts for employees, new customers, and current clients. For more information, contact the Harrisonville Public School Foundation at 380-2727, ext. 1224.
The proceeds from the card sales are split between the participating schools and the Harrisonville Public School Foundation. Youth in Government
Harrisonville High School students participated in the 2019 Missouri Youth in Government Clark Convention.
The Youth in Government Convention is a three-day event in Jefferson City. Students campaigned for and elected government offices. Students presented their own legislation to committees and on the Senate and House floors. If passed, the bill moves to the Missouri Youth Governor who then either signed into law or veto the legislation. The Judicial Branch tried an Attorney General's case and then also participated in Moot Trials. The delegates involved in print media published the "YIG Times" each day and those in video media produced a 15-minute television program that aired both during the morning and evening.
HHS had one student in the judiciary, and two in the legislature. Jacob Allen worked as an attorney arguing cases and Kitty Truman and Colleen O'Reilly worked in the House of Representatives proposing, debating, and voting on bills. They were accompanied to Youth in Government by HHS social studies teacher Eric Sullins.
