By Pamela Dell 41 pages Lexile 769 : A few century's ago the pilgrims set out to get religious freedom after being persecuted and was trying to get to Virginia but as terrible and harsh storm washes them to Plymouth Rock and sailed 2,900 miles. Before anyone stepped off the Mayflower which was the boat that took the pilgrims to Plymouth Rock all the men aboard had to sign the Mayflower compact. The pilgrims faced a harsh winter and about half the people died in the first few months. In the spring a Indian named Samoset came up and greeted the people in English.

The Mayflower was the boat that took the pilgrims to Cape Cod that while it was on it's way faced a harsh storm.
