Akin News 02/26/20
From the Desk of Beckie Webster
Thank you for keeping the focus on student learning:
Thank you to Rosanne Slan and Jennifer Cassel for their work this year with our 3 Destination Imagination Teams who represented Akin this past weekend. They did an amazing job and without the support or these teachers and parent volunteers our students would not get this student experience-thank you for a job well done!
Ooooo Megan Chambley-what would we do without her support, guidance and big smile. Thank you Megan for being all to everyone as the Sped. Team lead and a case load of almost 30 SCSS students. We all want you to know that your work is valued and we appreciate your care and concern!!! Thank you for your service to our students and teachers!

Spring is around the corner!
As students' behaviors change with the seasons-I wanted to remind us all what kids want from us.
In the wise work of Capturing Kids Hearts, here is a list of what kids need from us:
1. Greet them at the door (Let's continue to make this a priority each morning-Jordan has a special handshake for each student-way to go!)
2. Call them by name
3. Show an interest-personal
4. Have a consistant mood
5. Be honest
6. Keep promises
7. Listen (willing)
8. Expect the best from us
9. Share personal stories
10. Make class exciting and interactive
11. Clearly define rules and expectations
12. No yelling
13. Humor
14. Participate
15. Value participation even if it is wrong
16. Have excitement about what you teach!
Checkout this video (Thanks for Sharing Darby)-People get on Twitter- it is a great place for professional learning!
Together, we can be the best FOR the world!
