Be strong because things will eventually get better. It may be stormy now,
but rain never lasts forever.
Hello Triton Families,
I hope this finds your family healthy and adjusting to this unimaginable circumstance. In a world where so much occurs online, few of us ever imagined that our child's middle school experience would change so drastically and so quickly. We appreciate your patience and support as our district shifts to a distance learning environment. As always, CMS is committed to providing our students with the care and education they deserve. I have been working closely (virtually) with the devoted and wonderful Triton teachers in designing learning opportunities to enrich and support students while they are at home.
The staff and I have been talking about how much we miss seeing our kiddos every day, and we want them to know that we are thinking about them and sending our love and support!
Below, you’ll find the information about how learning will be provided to parents and students in phases over the coming weeks.
Phase 1 (Current -March 27th): Independent Practice. Instructional resources have been provided from the county and state.
- Links by grade/subject level with recommended time-on-tasks for students and parents can be found on the district website click here.
- Below you'll find information to "Adventure Academy." All students will have access to an account by using our school code.
- PowerSchool: CMS tudents are encouraged to check their teachers' PowerSchool pages and complete and submit any late work, extra credit, or grading period 3 assignments (Note: some classes may have had assignments in process and will be accepting them as part of grading period 3. Be sure to check teachers' PowerSchool pages for details)
End of Grading Period 3: Grading period will end on Friday, March 27th. Please remember that this grade is a progress report and is not reported on a student's transcript.
Phase 2 (April 6th - TBD): Distance Learning. Standards-based curricula and assignments, developed in week-long blocks, by grade/subject/course specific teachers. Teachers are working diligently to design standards-based curriculum learning opportunities which students can access through PowerSchool. This information will be provided to parents and students on Friday, March 27th. Additionally, I will provide resources to support your child's organization and accessibility to teachers, counselors, and me.
This has been an inconceivable event, and the numerous changes for everyone is certainly challenging. I know you have many questions regarding multiple items from learning to events, and I want to assure you that as I continue to work on the many details, I will keep you informed.
Mid-week I'll be sending you an additional Triton Newsletter with a video message and information on 2020-2021 application electives for current 6th and 7th graders.

DOES YOUR CHILD HAVE ACCESS TO A DIGITAL DEVICE AT HOME?
- If you currently have a digital device, such as a desktop computer, laptop, Chromebook, iPad, Galaxy tablets and other Android-based devices that can connect to Chrome in your home available for your child's use, you DO NOT NEED to complete the form.
- If you need a device for your child, PLEASE COMPLETE the online form by Tuesday, March 24th at 5pm so that we can ensure devices are ready to pick up.
- If your child is serviced by an Individual Education Program (IEP) and has a designated assistive technology device per their IEP, PLEASE COMPLETE the online form, as well, so we can be sure the device is ready for pick-up.
- We are planning to distribute devices the week of March 30 - April 3. You MUST complete the above form to receive updated information regarding device pick-up times and location.
IMPORTANT RESOURCES THAT ARE AVAILABLE FROM INTERNET PROVIDERS

You must live within their service area. Please check with these home Internet service providers to see if you qualify.
Spectrum - There are reports that Spectrum will provide some level of free access to low-income customers in their area. https://www.spectrum.com/browse/content/spectrum-internet-assist
- Cox also partnered with PCs for People where families can purchase discounted refurbished computers. More information can be found here: https://cox.pcsrefurbished.com/
- Learn more in the “Learn from Home” toolkit for schools that includes a way to fast track students in need of a home internet connection and how to communicate with parents about Connect2Compete.
As new communication is provided from the state, CUSD will continue to follow the guidance of the CDE (Califorrnia Department of Education) and the HHSA (Health and Human Services Agency). Please visit the CUSD website for updates. https://coronadousd.net/about/covid-19-information/
