Keystone Exams
Earlier this school year, the Pennsylvania State Legislature passed Senate Bill 1216, making several revisions for previous legislation regarding state assessments and graduation requirements. This message serves to inform our families of these legislative revisions and to provide clarity around the implications for your children. Please watch the informational video, Keystone Exam and Graduation Requirements: Update to Middle School Families if you have not already done so.
Students Enrolled in Algebra in 2019-2020
Any student who was enrolled in Algebra 1 or Algebra 1B and was scheduled to take the Algebra Keystone Exam in Spring of 2020, is considered the Spring 2020 cohort. Students in the Spring 2020 cohort are not required to “make-up” the exam. According to the legislation and guidance from the PA Department of Education, these students have been deemed “proficient” if they passed the course last Spring. Central Bucks will not be rostering any students in the Spring 2020 cohort to take the Algebra Keystone Exam this school year. However, any parent wishing for their child to take the exam may do so by completing this form by May 7th. The Pennsylvania Department of Education requires students who take the Algebra 1 Keystone to complete the assessment in the building.
Students Enrolled in Algebra in 2020-2021
All students who are taking Algebra 1 or Algebra 1B this school year are required to take the Algebra Keystone exam this Spring. However, parents of children enrolled in a Keystone exam course during the 2020-2021 school year may choose to opt-out of the exam. If a family chooses to opt-out of the exam, they must notify the school in writing of their desire to do so following the process outlined on the CBSD Assessment Webpage by May 7th. The Pennsylvania Department of Education requires students who take the Algebra 1 Keystone to complete the assessment in the building. The Keystone Exam at Tamanend will be administered on June 1, 2021.
Thank You, CB Cares Educational Foundation!
Thanks to an Innovative Learning grant via CB Cares Educational Foundation, Tamanend 7th Graders met an author who made exciting connections to what they are currently learning! On April 9th, our students participated in a virtual Teams call with George O'Connor, New York Times bestselling author of The Olympians graphic novel series. Our students learned about perseverance and what it takes to become an author illustrator. They added even more knowledge of Greek mythology to their repertoire! Students learned about how Mr. O'Connor turned his passion into a profession and how he uses research to reconstruct and retell classic Greek myths. At the end of the call, our Tamanend students asked their burning mythological questions through an engaging question and answer session. A huge Tamanend thanks to CB Cares Educational Foundation for making this awesome event possible!
Modified Quarantine
CBSD’s Board of School Directors approved changes to the district’s health and safety plan, including implementation of modified quarantine protocols beginning on Monday, April 19, 2021. Reminder--Important Traffic Safety
Since the beginning or the year, our parent drop-off and pick-up traffic has improved tremendously, but we still need your help. There will soon be an increase in daily traffic as more students return to in-person learning. We must remember that WE HAVE STUDENTS WHO WALK TO SCHOOL. Recently, we've seen an increase in cars speeding on Stuckert Road. For the safety of our students, please maintain a 15 mph school zone speed limit in our parking lots and along Stuckert Road. Thanks for your help!
Reminder--Parent Drop-Off and Pick-Up
With the return of 5-day in-person schooling, there has been an increase in the number of car riders. Please remember the following important details when dropping off or picking up your child-
- You can only turn right into the parking lot, from the direction of Kelly Road. Do NOT attempt to make a left-hand turn into the parking lot during pick-up at the end of the day. If you come from Bristol Rd., please go past the school, turn around, and get in the car line.
- There are staggered dismissal times. The first is at 1:16 and the 2nd is at 1:21pm. It would be helpful to find out what time your child is dismissed from their 7th period class, so that you do not rush to get in line if they are let out at the 2nd dismissal time.
- Everyone has been able to exit the parking lot by 1:30 pm, so there is no need to rush. All students are let out between the Main Entrance and the Gym/Cafeteria Entrance, so students should not be walking down the sidewalk to your cars. This causes the line of traffic to stop and we need to keep everyone moving.
Thank you for your support!

This Edition of Guidance Sparks--Be the Captain of Your Child's Spark Team
We know that the last 12 months have been difficult for many people in many, many ways. For our students, the struggle has included a disruption in their educational and social way-of-life. Learning from the restrictions the pandemic has placed on your children may be an opportunity to re-exam what is important to them for now and the future. Ask your daughter or son to think about what was missed during this time of limited access? What didn’t he/she/they miss? The answers might give insight to what Sparks are important to them.
If your teen missed working at a part-time job at the local restaurant because of the responsibilities opportunity to learn about how to run a business, this might be worth exploring in a more serious way. If your teen didn’t miss taking piano lessons because it was just something to add to a college resume, maybe it is time to start looking at other activities where there is true interest.
Looking at the whole concept of Sparks, this might be the right time to reevaluate where time is spent and what interest holds true passion. “One joy scatters a hundred griefs.” – Chinese Proverb
