Reagan Rays Library
Reading, Learning and just having fun in here!
What a year!
We were really busy in the library this year! Mrs. Lea and I saw 47 classes a week, had about 40 kids daily come in the library to see us, checked out 40,000 items to kids and teachers, two book fairs, lots of computer activities, Storybook Pumpkin Patch contest, Mystery Skyping, Dot Day, Dr. Seuss celebration, Poetry Picnics and lots of fun and laughing! We had to laugh because our school had 960 kids. And they all LOVE THE LIBRARY!
Technology learning was super important this year!
I learned with the kids how so many things worked! We made a bunch of mistakes, but we all learned and taught each other! It was so much fun to be able to try new programs on the devices that we had. The kids participated in "A Week of Coding" in December. We have quite a few budding computer programers and were challenging themselves to harder programs. One of my favorite activities was Library Pocket. The kids brought their own devices and we made a "pocket" or folder to keep their important resources in one handy spot! They really liked using the QR codes to help them find their websites. We also LOVED Telligami..making gamis and telling about our favorite books.
Exciting Times!
Banding Together
Our third graders "Banded Together" to make our friends in India's world a little brighter with their rainbow bands. They rocked out over 700 of them!
Battle of the Bluebonnets
We competed with 25 other Leander schools to test our knowledge of the Bluebonnet nominees. And we celebrated our love of reading!
Kinder Monsters
My favorite project was the monsters that the kinder friends made after reading "Monstore" We had our own Ray's Monstore and they made the cutest monsters ever!
TECH LEARNING
Skyping
We learned to SKYPE and did it with Bush Elementary for Dot Day and World Read Aloud Day. I also did my very first Mystery Skype with Jillian at Sharks 4 Kids. She was in the Bahamas. We had a rocky start, but the kids learned so much and loved meeting her! I plan to do more Mystery Skyping next year and hope to find and author or two to interact with!
STORYBOOK PUMPKIN PATCH
How much fun was this? The kids turned a pumpkin into their favorite storybook character. We had over 150 pumpkins in the library! I think it will be an annual event!
