As we are moving toward our first major essay, students are honing their sentence structure, sentence combining, and grammar and punctuation through Study Island assignments and direct instruction. In preparation for the reading and analyzation of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter from the Birmingham Jail,” students review the historical timeline of events leading up to and including the Civil Right Movement from 1948 to 1968. The final assignment for the week was to complete an initial reading of the “Letter from….”
