ARSA Instructional Highlights
ARSA Science Instructional Highlight - Ms. Burns 8th Grade Science
Ms. Burns is an awesome teacher and leader. She has taken Astronomy and hit the ground running. Students that are in her class walk away with a new love for learning because of how interesting and student centered she makes learning. She is a great team leader who helps guide our teachers through the matrix of TEI!! I am thankful for her leadership and hard work.

Spotlight on Mr. Driggers - Lead. Achieve
I would like to spotlight Mr. Driggers for the AMAZING theatre performance he presented on Thursday. The skits were all created and performed by the students. He has encouraged his students to express themselves in a safe and respectful way, and I was very impressed by what they came up with. Great job on your first showcase of the year, I look forward to many more!
Spotlight on Mrs. Tovar, Ms. Walker, & Ms. Luckey
Shout out to my fellow learners! Thank you team for engaging fully in a very comprehensive learning experience this week. We left exhausted every day and that is a testament to the relevancy each of you found in the valuable time spent away from our campus.
Sometimes learning new things can be very nerve wracking! As a team, you all took it one day at a time and were fully engaged - and all for the benefit of ARSA community.
Each of you approached the work as a team and didn't shy away from asking questions. As a team ensuring we are well equipped to support the AWESOME new system of PowerSchool that is being introduced to the district for the upcoming school year.
Proudest Principal in DISD!
Spotlight on Ms. Clarke - Lead. Achieve.
Lead & Achieve.
It is often said that great things come in small packages. In my opinion, Ms. Clark is no exception to that adage.
Although Ms. Clark is not the team lead and is new to 8th grade ELAR this year, she worked tirelessly to create comprehensive calendars and lessons for her team. Since this school year’s inception, she has mentored the new teachers by modeling lessons & providing them with resources. She is the embodiment of Lead.
Furthermore, for the past two years I have watched students, even some of the most behaviorally-challenging, flourish under her tutelage. This is a testament to her many years of experience as an educator, but more importantly, it demonstrates her desire to build strong relationships with our students by nurturing the whole child, which is desperately needed but oftentimes overlooked. She is the epitome of Achieve.
Without titles or praise, Ms. Clark tackles every obstacle placed in front of her and always puts the needs of children first. Her contributions to ARSA are invaluable. She is the kind of educator I strive to be.
Spotlight on Mrs. Coley
I wanted to take a moment to highlight the unrelenting nature and positive spirit of Mrs. Coley. At times, we have no idea what goes on day to day in the counselors realm of responsibilities. All of our counselors are phenomenal and approach so many challenges with a solution oriented mindset.
A special hats off to Mrs. Coley, as she has approached several hurdles this week with grace, heart, grit, and commitment. Students, staff, and families are better for it!
Spotlight on Ms. Dashiell - Lead. Achieve
I would like to spotlight Nurse Dashiell. She has devoted several years to taking care of other people’s children when they are away from home and feeling sick.
She is always kind and understanding to each individual’s needs. She inspires me with her faithfulness to work diligently and her knowledge of what’s going on with the student.
Spotlight on Ms. Barksdale - Lead
Mrs. Scally writes:
I would like to spotlight Ms. Barksdale for bringing her students to the library to learn how to research using our district online resources Britannica, Britannica Images, World Book Student, Gale, and SIRS Discoverer for their European Country Brochure Project.
Students also learned the difference in searching just with Google compared to the online resources. Citing sources was discussed as well with students and the importance of that.
Spotlight on Ms. Hunt & Ms. Nix - Lead
This week we have several campus leaders off campus, due to training or being sick. Ms. Hunt and Ms. Nix have addressed all administrative duties every day this week and some of our scholars were in rare form!!
I want to say a tremendous thank you to both of them, for their diligence, patience, and team player commitment. When there are absences at the leadership level, the work, meetings, responsibilities do not wait until the next day, they have to be addressed and that means it gets addressed by another leadership team member.
I know that their responsibilities had to be juggled as they helped the whole team, so again, tremendous thank you!!
Teamwork makes the dream work!!
