Principal's Message

Tēnā koutou katoa – Warmest greetings to you all.

I hope this newsletter finds you happy and healthy. Spring is definitely in the air - the birds are singing, the grass is growing, the daffodils and rhododendrons are flowering at school, and the days are getting longer and lighter. However, the changeable weather and precautions around COVID has definitely impacted the availability of our staff from time to time. Thank you for your patience and understanding when we have been forced to split classes due to staff sickness/ lack of relievers. We appreciate your understanding as we work hard to minimize disruption.

Thank you for following our COVID Level 2 protocols. These measures are intended to keep us all safe. Keeping children home when they are unwell and encouraging good hygiene practices is a huge help. A reminder to please let the office know by 9am if your child is absent.

The Senior Crosscountry was a real highlight last week as the children worked hard to achieve their personal best. We were really blessed with perfect weather which not only helped our runners but also made it more comfortable for whanau and supporters! Tomorrow we look forward to encouraging our 5, 6 and 7 year olds who will be involved in their crosscountry race around the school grounds.

All the best for a great week ahead.

Welcome to Normanby School

Today we welcomed the following new student to Normanby School:

  • Miranda Seth - Miranda started school today as a new entrant. She has joined Room 5 in Ngahere. Her older sister, Helayna is also in Ngahere but in Room 6.

We look forward to getting to know Miranda and working in partnership with her whanau as she develops and grows in her educational journey.

Happy Birthday Mrs Le Pine!

Today is a VERY special day for one of our much loved and cherished staff members. Kay is the glue that holds our school together. Today we honour her and wish her a very happy birthday and hope for many more celebrations to share in the future.

Thank you Kay, for all you do for our school and community. It is such a privilege working with you. You are one of a kind xxx

Love from the Normanby Team!

Wig Wednesday - Wednesday 9 September

This week we have Wig Wednesday to support Child Cancer.

We have a special wee boy at our school who spent his first two years battling cancer in Starship Hospital so this cause is very close to his families heart. His family really appreciated the support they were given during this challenging time.

We would like to help out other families in their quest to battle this disease. Children can wear mufti for the day at a cost of $2 per child. Wearing a wig is encouraged but optional.

Term 4 School Hats

From the beginning of Term 4, all students are required to wear a bottle green bucket hat. We are doing another order of these, embroidered with your child's name, for a total cost of $15.

If you would like to order one, please make payment into the school bank account quoting 'hat' and the name you would like embroidered.

There are three sizes available which can be viewed at the office. Orders close on the last day of day term, Friday 25 September.

Games

It is great to see children learning how to play some of our more traditional games before school in the mornings.

Room 8 have discovered new games this week so have spent time before class learning how to play them and then they are teaching each other how to play. So far we have being playing Pick Up Sticks, Tiddlywinks and Draughts.

We think knuckle bones should be the next game to learn.

Senior Crosscountry results

We are so proud of our students who completed the senior crosscountry last Friday. What a great afternoon! The weather was perfect, the setting was fantastic and it was great to see whanau supporting the children in their quest to do their best. Thank you to the staff for your help in running this event and a huge thanks to Clarissa Dravitzki for her amazing organisational ability.

Well done to ALL children for their great effort!!

We are so privileged to have such an amazing and active PTA who are always looking for ways to provide more opportunities for our children. Our next meeting is this Wednesday 9 September at 7pm in the school library. Everyone is always welcome to attend. .

BOT Elections

School Elections December 4th 2020

Normanby school will have 2 Parent Representative positions available at the next election in December. We will advertise for Nominations in early November.

Why become a Trustee?

Trustees are active leaders in our schools. They have an important role of supporting strong professional leadership and ensuring effective teaching for all students through informed governance.

Parents/caregivers and people in the wider community can be parent representative and other types of trustees. School boards need to represent the diversity of their school communities to ensure a bright future for all our children.

The trustee elections are the opportunity to vote for candidates who will make a positive difference for children’s education. We need more people willing to use their skills and experiences for the benefit of students!

"Board members are entrusted by the community to ensure the success of our schools and a bright future for our children. We need an education system where all children are expected to succeed and one where we all take shared responsibility in ensuring this happens. As a member of a school board you can make things happen - you can make a difference."
