Please help remind your senior child to check their school email for a “Sehome Diploma Name Verification” message. Responses to this email message are due March 3, 2020. Please note that the receipt of this email does not guarantee that your senior will have met all requirements for graduation in June. Questions regarding diplomas? Please contact the Registrar, Janelle Larsen at Janelle.Larsen@bellinghamschools.org.

A Scholarship Opportunity for Juniors!
The Masonic Educational Council annually recognizes outstanding members of the Junior Class at each Whatcom County public high school. Any junior may enter the competition by completing the on-line application. https://www.whatcommec.org/
The top five boys and top five girls from each high school will be chosen to attend the awards program, along with their families, in April. Scholarships of $600 will be awarded to the top student at each high school and $1,500 to the top boy and top girl in Whatcom County. The deadline for the application is early March 9th.
College Bound Student Support and 9th Grade Repledge
The College Bound Scholarship was established in 2007 to provide state-funded financial aid to low-income students who may not consider college due to the cost. Students completed the application during 7th or 8th grade. (For more information regarding the scholarship: http://www.wsac.wa.gov/college-bound.)
We have been collaborating with Futures NW again this year to give our Sehome College Bound Students extra support. Bianca Leon, WWU Senior, is at Sehome 2-3 days a week and has been helping seniors with FASFA/WASFA and other college-related questions.

2020 Census
Did you know that April 1, 2020 is Census Day?
The U.S. Census Bureau will send you an invitation to respond online to the 2020 Census between March 12-20. Responding to the Census helps our community get its fair share of funding. Census data guides how more than $675 billion in federal funding is distributed to states and communities each year for schools, health care facilities, roads, transportation, recreation centers, social services and more.
Starting in March 2020, everyone living in your home needs to be counted. That includes children and newborn babies, citizens and non-citizens, relatives and nonrelatives, and even those staying with you temporarily. You can complete the Census online, by phone or by mail. Your responses are safe and secure. The law requires the U.S. Census Bureau to keep your information confidential, and your responses cannot be used against you in any way.
Learn more about how you can shape your future at 2020census.gov.
