Why the Irish came to the u.s
A tradition they brought
recipe, Irish soda bread
4C flour
1 t baking soda
1 t salt
1-1½ C buttermilk
Preheat oven to 425. Brush baking sheet with melted butter or non-stick cooking spray.
Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl. Gradually add 1 C buttermilk, beating constantly, until the dough is firm enough to be gathered into a ball. If it crumbles, add more buttermilk a Tbsp at a time until it is firm.
Place on lightly floured board and pat into an 8” flattened round loaf.
Place loaf on a baking sheet and slash a ½ inch deep X on the top of it.
Bake for about 45 mins. or until the top is golden brown.
Serve hot.
