Mustangs in the Middle : Week of November 2, 2020
From the desk of Mrs. Boytim, Principal of SMS
We had a wonderful week celebrating our students and their 1st Quarter academic success and their Halloween spirit. Thank you again to parents for showing our staff appreciation with the food truck. It was more than appreciated. Please see the slideshow below as staff took time to show their thanks.
Now that we are well into our second quarter, please be sure to review assignments, Google Classrooms, teacher emails and grades with your student to assess how they are performing. Please encourage your student to reach out to teachers if they have concerns or need additional help. Also, please reference our Team Previews in this newsletter and locate your teams' template with assignments and updates for each of your students' classes.

Thank you to our SMS PTA for providing donuts for 545 students who earned Principal and Scholar Awards for the first quarter of this school year. Students were celebrated this week by their administrators, school counselors and teachers with a donut, beverage and certificate. We are so proud of their success, dedication and resilience. What a great accomplishment during a difficult educational time. We are so proud of all of our students!

Counselor's Corner!
Students are utilizing technology and social media more than ever making it vital that we teach them how to use technology as a tool, not as a weapon for cyberbullying. Check out the Cyberbullying: What Parents Should Know guide from PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center for information on how you can help your child be a responsible and kind digital citizen.
Additionally, click HERE for more information about what parents should know about COVID-19 and cyberbullying.
Although Bullying Prevention month is coming to an end, we will be encouraging our students to continue showing kindness and empathy towards others, both in person and online. As always, if you are concerned that your child is experiencing bullying at Strongsville Middle School, please report those concerns to a school staff member or building administrator. Additionally, students who believe they have been harassed, bullied, and victimized by fellow students can also report their concerns to the "Stay Safe. Speak Up!" hotline. Reporting incidents can be made anonymously online via Student Safety Reporting or through a toll free number (1-866-547-8362).
