Causes of the American Revolution
1763-1776
Navigation Act
The Navigation Act was when the thought of mercantilism meant wealth, so they tried to put it in real practice. The navigation act happened in the 1650-1700s in Parliament. This act involved Britain West Indies, French West Indies, and the England colonies. The sugar act was something that happened during the navigation act which was telling the American rum to buy higher price sugar from the British west Indies. The main thing about this act was that the colonial was to go against the mother country.
The Proclamation
The Proclamation Act of 1763 was about what happened after the French and Indian war was over and how the british soldiers would still stay in ohio river valley. The American Indians didn't like it that the soldiers wouldn't leave there area. That led to a war between them and the called the Pontiacs rebellion, later after the british won but to keep tention with the Indian King George lll made the proclamation of 1763 this is were no colonist were aloud to settle west of the Appalachian mountains. This mad the colonist mad because they thought that this was to try to get control of them.
The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was when Parliament made the colonist buy a stamp or a seal to tax everything that had print on paper products, Parliament also tried to raise the funds on the products so that the colonies will have to pay more taxes then they do already. Samuel Adams was the founder of Committees of Correspondence, this is where groups would be sent out to reach the other colonies about these taxes British trying to find a way to fight it. One way they thought to do was to boycott to protest, they would do this by not buying British goods. The stamp act also had a stamp act congress these were people to decide what to do about the taxes, these people later decided to send a letter to the king asking to repeal the act.
The Quartering Act
The Quartering Act was after the stamp act , this act got passed in 1765. When the colonist had to house and feed the British, colonist had 2 big issues with this because they felt like there value of rights were being lost, and they didn't like it when the soldiers just showed up with a writs of assistance. This was also a costly thing for the colonist so the soldiers said that they will promise protection of the Indian attacks and that they will get jobs for lower wage for the colonist.
Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts was a act that Parliament passed in 1767, this act made the colonist pay taxes on tea, glass, paper, and some more items that could rise the military cost from the quartering act. Colonist boycotted these goods by what they call is the Daughters of Liberty were they would start to cloth instead of buying them. By the time it was 1770 all the things that the colonist did worked Parliament repealed most for these taxes. When British heard about this they wanted to show that they still had power to put tax of goods by leaving the tax on tea. The British government got mad which lead to violence and attacks on homes on the offcials and colonial tax collecters.
Boston Massacre
On March 5, 1770 the tension of anger gathered to colonist they were mad at the British soldiers colonist even began shouting insults and throwing snowballs this slowly went into a riot 5 colonist were killed after this they called it the Boston Massacre. Later Samuel Adams made a incident called to propaganda were you try to get a one and only opinion by doing this he shared ideas with people. John Adams was chosen to represent the soldiers by showing that they will value the colonist rights.
Tea Act & Boston Tea Party
In 1773, the British East India company let only one company sell tea to the colonies this was called the Tea Act. The price of the tea was lower but some how this made the colonist mad because no matter what they were still forced to pay import taxes. The colonist decided to refuse to take the tea off the britsh ships so they boycotted the tea. On December 16, 1773 the sons of liberty got dressed like the American Indians and illegally threw the crates of tea off the british into the Boston Harbor they called it the Boston Tea Party.
Coercives Acts
The coercives act and Intolerable was to force the colonist to pay for the tea and so that the colonist from trying to plan more attacks. These acts got the trade between boston and britian to stop and didn't not allow town meetings this just gave britian more power over them. this also impacted there ecomonies of the colonies this slowly led to a boston buying other colonies goods.
American Revolution
The American Revolutiion was a lot of acts or laws in a period of time. Some of the social cause of the American revolution was Boston Tea Party, Stamp Act, and Quartering act. Things that led up to the American Revolution were the Appalachian mountains, and the land of the Ohio River Valley. I don't think colonist were justified in declaring independences from England because England didn't value the colonist rights. they did things without no reasoning to it.
