Overcoming Challenges: Good Habits Mean a Lot

The game last Thursday was one of the strangest evenings you'll see in a high school football season. The students and volunteers responded so well! The band still played well in the stands, the chaperones and equipment crew handled challenges smoothly, and the concessions volunteers still made money for the organization. The ability for our program to overcome challenges with flexibility and patience depends upon our good habits established in rehearsal and preparation and organization. Thank you to everyone for continuing to help us refine our procedures, and thank you to the students for continuing to develop great habits in rehearsal.

Football Game: Away vs. North Penn

Friday, Sep. 20th 2013 at 7:30-10pm

Kick-off for the game is scheduled for 7:30. We will perform the half-time show. Students should be home and ready for pick-up around 11:00 PM.

Chaperones and Equipment Crew should arrive at 5:00.

Wawa Orders for Football Games

Last week we learned that it would be valuable to help students if we placed a hoagie order each week for the time between the school day and the Friday football game report time.

On Wednesday of each week, we will make a Wawa order available. The order will be delivered to Wawa after practice on Wednesday, and no late orders will be accepted. Only coupons will be accepted as payment. We will have additional packs of coupons available for $40 (for a pack of ten coupons). A portion of the Wawa coupon purchases goes back to the student account. Hoagies will be picked up and delivered 30-60 minutes before report time each week.

Upcoming Rehearsals

We will rehearse after school this week. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin on the field at 2:50. Rehearsals will end at 5:00, and students can be picked up immediately following rehearsal.

Students coming from Tohickon MS should take the activities bus at the end of the school day (please check with the front office about the timing for this bus).

Color Guard performers will rehearse Tuesday evening from 6:00-9:00 with Miss Estep instead of rehearsing after school.

Also, the band will be holding a dress rehearsal from 11:30 to 3:00 on Saturday for the competition. Rehearsal will begin at 11:30, and students should arrive between 11:15 and 11:25 to be prepared for the beginning of rehearsal.

"Spectacle in Sound" - Band Competition

Saturday, Sep. 21st 2013 at 11:30am-11:30pm

The first competition of the year is this weekend!

The band will rehearse from 11:30 to 3:00, then break for snack and change into uniform. Chaperones and equipment crew should arrive at 3:00. We will depart for Upper Dublin HS at 4:00. The bands in our class begin the show at 5:30, and CB East will perform at 6:30. We will then change out of uniform and wait for the awards ceremony scheduled for 10:30. The band will then return to East, unpack, and go home. Pick up should be between 11:15 and 11:30 pm.

Tickets for the event are $12 for adults and $7 for students/seniors. All tickets will be sold at the gate. Spectators can park at either of the large parking lots entering from Fort Washington Ave. and Loch Alsh Ave.

Peddler's Village Scarecrow Festival - Pumpkin Sales

Sunday, Sep. 22nd 2013 at 8am-1pm

Lahaska, Pennsylvania

Last year this was developed into a very successful event. Peddler's Village teams up with a local farm who provide the pumpkins at a significantly reduced price. The band sets up a decorating area and visiting children paint their pumpkins. All of the proceeds directly benefit the band. This is a fun morning for the students to volunteer! There are still a handful of slots available, and thank you to everyone who has already volunteered.

Yankee Candles Fundraiser

The Yankee Candle fundraiser is underway and order packets have been sent home with all of the students. Orders are due Tuesday, September 24. Orders will be received mid to late October. Don't forget preparations for the upcoming holiday season!

CB East Back to School Night

More information is available on the CB East Website. This event only applies to parents/guardians of students currently enrolled at CB East. The marching band is not directly involved in this event.

Gift Card Orders

Nancy Oberholtzer, the Gift Card chairperson, will be available at the end of practice, Tuesday, September 17 to distribute gift cards that were ordered. If you are unable to meet her on Tuesday, please email her or call her at (215) 343-4147 to make other arrangements.

The next gift card order is due Tuesday, October 8.

54th Annual Boyertown Cavalcade of Bands

Saturday, Sep. 28th 2013 at 9pm

120 North Monroe Street

Boyertown, PA

Students will report for rehearsal between 12:15 and 12:25. Rehearsal begins at 12:30 PM and will end at 4:00. Chaperones and equipment crew should arrive at 4:00. The band will depart for the show at 5:00.

The competition begins at 6:00. There will be a 30 minute intermission prior to the Yankee class, which features CB East and Nazareth. CB East is scheduled to perform at 8:15. Awards are scheduled for 9:15. Students can be picked up around 11:00 PM.

A limited number of tickets are available for purchase now. Tickets may be purchased from Mr. Hoskins at the end of marching band practice. Adult tickets are $8 each, and student/senior tickets are $5 each. Please make checks payable to Boyertown Area Schools Music League. If we run out of tickets available for pre-sale, tickets may still be purchased at the gate on the day of the event at the rate of $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Nashville Trip

Thank you to everyone who has continued to stay on top of the payments for the Nashville trip. the final payment is due October 20. Although most people are up to date, it is important that everyone meet the payment expectations this week so final booking of the flight can be purchased. No additional registrations can be accepted at this time. A representative of Music America's accounting department provided this link to check your account status.
