Mrs. Ewald’s and Mrs. Fowler’s Reading and Language Arts
On Monday, December 5, students will be taking the Outsiders summative. They will then watch the movie “The Outsiders.” They absolutely LOVED the novel and are looking forward to seeing if what they visualized while reading differs from the movie. They will also be practicing the skill of identifying direct and indirect characterization while reading “Papa’s Parrot.” Students will work on a constructed response essay towards the end of the week as well. We are very pleased with the growth we saw on the ELA MAP tests last week! The students have been working so hard in class, and it shows! Keep it up!
Mrs. Boyer's Reading Advancement Program
This week, we focused on identifying the main idea in a passage and determining the difference between that and supporting details. Next week, we will work on finding textual evidence to prove our answers while we will read about the United States during the 1920's. The students' Lexile Levels have been adjusted, so feel free to have a conversation with your student about their growth. They are doing awesome!
MATH
Accelerated 7 students will be wrapping up Topic 4 on Percents. We will discuss Markdown/Markup and Simple Interest before we begin reviewing for our CSA (Summative) which will take place on Friday, December 9th.
SOCIAL STUDIES
This week students started learning about the Constitutional Convention. We focused on why the Articles of Confederation failed, and what changes the delegates wanted to make in the new Constitution. On Monday, students will take the Constitution pre-test to see what they already know (not for a grade). We will spend the next two weeks learning about the US Constitution, and take the Constitution test right before winter break.
SCIENCE
In our attempts to determine what caused the collapse of the Biodome we have learned about the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration. We have seen how these chemical reactions that take place inside cells, circulate carbon atoms throughout an ecosystem. We will have our final assessment on this unit on Tuesday, December 13.
