Welcome to Our House "Where Character Matters"
Dear Botsford Families,
Reading is a wonderful, feel-good way to spend time with children of any age. With young children, reading is not only an opportunity to snuggle close and unwind, it is the perfect occasion to lay the foundation for early literacy skills. Reading aloud with children can lead to increased vocabulary, language development, comprehension and listening skills.
Reading with young children has lifelong benefits! Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, March 27th 6:00-7:30. We are hosting a Botsford Family Night.
Choosing What Books to Read
With so many things to gain from reading, it can seem like the most benefits would come from the biggest, most complex books. Fortunately, bigger is not always better. Simple, picture books can provide an abundance of opportunities for children to discuss the text, make predictions, and exercise their comprehension skills.
While You Read
Young children are still learning concepts of print that may seem obvious to us. When you begin a story, children can be shown the front cover, back cover, and spine of the book. Talk about the author and illustrator and the title of the story. Following the words with your finger can help children understand that we read from left to right, top to bottom.
Reading should be fun and enjoyable. Allowing children to discuss the pictures, ask questions, and be an active participant in the reading experience maximizes their language and literacy development while helping them stay engaged and interested in the text.
Bus Loop and Parking Lot Safety
Cars should NEVER stop and wait in the bus loop. The loop is meant to be a safe drop off and pick up area but instead children are running through the loop to waiting vehicles and vehicles are not taking precautionary measures as they enter and exit the loop. We have had a parent volunteer to supervise our loop. Watch for orange cones. This means the loop is off limits to vehicles. Our volunteer has the authority to ask you to leave the loop.
