Mrs. Goddard is a mistress of the local boarding school. She was, " a plain, motherly kind of woman who had worked hard in her youth" (Austen 19). She knew the Woodhouses very well because she had taught them at her boarding school for real and honest educations. Mrs. Goddard took Harriet under her wing because Harriet didnt have a mother or father. She also was the one to introduce Harriet to Emma (19).
