Stuffie Shows!
So maybe it's cold, or rainy, and you're stuck inside. Maybe you've finished your poetry and science journals and math and want to do something else... well you can because YOU are in charge of school! Here's a writing activity that's super fun:
Make a Play with your stuffed animals or toys!
Mrs. Linse has a video below to teach you the basics about scripts. There's also a button for a story planner, because a play is more than just a pretend conversation. It should have a beginning, a problem, events, and a climax where the problem is fixed.
The problems can be little like, "I can't find my dog" or they can be big like "The volcano is exploding and we have to get off the island." Think of your genres. If you have a lot of Star Wars or alien toys maybe you could write a Sci-Fi. If you have a lot of Barbies or dolls like that you could write a Realistic. Maybe some of you want to solve a Mystery or go on a Fantasy adventure with magical happenings. Mixing odd kinds of toys and stuffies together could lead to a humorous Funny story!
Don't forget that you can make your own props out of paper. When I was little, we used to play paper dolls all the time. You'd have a flat doll, and you'd make paper outfits that had tabs at the shoulders and hips. You would fold the tabs over like hooks so the outfit would stay on as you moved the doll around. We'd make paper hats and purses and shoes and ponies and saddles... you get the idea.
Another fun thing to add to your Play are sound effects. If you have a laptop or tablet nearby, you can leave this website open and play the sound effect you need at the right moment for some extra pizzazz.
Finally, a play isn't much fun unless you have an audience! Get your siblings to help you perform the parts for your adults. Set up a stage for a Friday Opening Night Performance!

Survival
Do you have a tablet or an iPad? Don't forget about the free app: Novel Effect. This app has sound effects that play if you read the text fluently. Many of the books are right in the app so you can download them if you don't own them!
Let's take Tech to the Next Level
Then there is also a button to a newsletter a lot of grown ups have seen and I thought... why can't the kids see it too? It's full of little how-to videos. When you record the computer screen and your voice explaining how to use the webpages, that's called a SCREENCAST. Some of these have been on the school distance learning smore as lessons, some weren't. But feel free to look through the buttons and see if there are any that might help you become better at controlling your computer. That's what programmers do: they make the computer follow their inputs!
Science Connection
Another website that's great is Mystery Science. Here's a couple free resources you might enjoy there this week:
How can you keep a house from blowing away in a windstorm?
