Notes from the Principal's Office
We would like to thank everyone that took the time for fill out the Free and Reduced lunch paperwork. We had a 97% completion rate which I believe to be one of the highest in OESU. The information gathered from these forms are used by the government to determine our allocations for Title funding. Schools have noticed a drop in the completion of these forms since Vermont has provided free lunch and breakfast to all. If you are curious about Title I funding; the process, determination and how NES uses the federal funds that come to us please consider attending the Annual Title I Meeting that will be held in the library Tuesday September 26 from 5:30-6:00.
Has your child come home from school and mentioned trying something new at lunch? This summer we met with a representative from the Abby Group to discuss changing our menu up to provide students with exposure to foods that they might not normally try. While we all love chicken tenders, hamburgers and pizza, it's nice to try something new like Monte Cristo sandwiches, falafel, gyros and marinated tofu. Special thanks to Chef Creed for making samples so that students can try new items. I'm really proud of our student's willingness to try new things and be open minded. Pictured below is a recent lunch of honey lemon chicken, fried rice and roasted broccoli. There is a side of the lemon, honey garlic tofu to try as well. If you haven't looked at our new menu, I urge you to do so.
I would encourage everyone to mark their calendars for October 5th when we will be hosting our Farm and Field Day to connect students to our rural way of life. Farm Raiser Forms which are also due on October 5th and can be found at the end of this newsletter.
Wishing You Well,
~Loretta

Positivity Project Focus September 25th-27th: Other People Mind Set-Being Present & Giving Others My Attention
Dear Families,
This week our school community will be focusing on the Other People Mindset of Being Present and Giving Others My Attention. This means when I’m with other people, I’m present and give them my full attention.
This element of the Other People Mindset is so important today due to the increasing number of distractions vying for our time and attention. Phone calls, text messages, emails, social media notifications all have the dangerous capacity to pull us away from the present moment and, what’s most important -- our relationships with other people.
Just like plants need sunlight to grow, our relationships need attention. If we don’t give our attention to the people we’re building relationships with -- whether family members, close friends, or even distant colleagues -- we can’t build those relationships. It’s vitally important that we pick our heads up from our cell phones and truly listen to other people when they’re talking. A positive culture is built on positive relationships -- and we can’t build positive relationships without attention.
To practice and encourage the character strength of perspective with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.
Have a wonderful week!

We're Making Music! With Ms. LaBonte
It’s a great start to the year in music class! We have gotten to work learning about rhythm, beat, different notes, and chords! K-2 has been working on learning a basic rhythm used in their classrooms and learning notes with boomwhackers! We have also been playing different musical games, such as Apple Tree and Jump In, Jump Out! 3-6 has been learning about chords, different notes stacked on top of each other and playing songs with boomwhackers that include different chords! At the beginning of October, K-2 will be working on creating their own compositions and 3-6 will be learning about different composers and working on a Composer Powerpoint Project.
