Prestons Post
Term 4, Week 7
Principal's Message
The term is rapidly flying by and our students and teachers have been very busy with learning, wellbeing, Check in Assessments, Year 1 phonics tests, OC tests just to name a few. Over the coming weeks we look forward to meeting our new Kindergarten students for 2022. Our Year 6 students will also be engaging in transition programs with their 2022 high schools.
End of Year Wellbeing days
Our teachers are busy planning special wellbeing days for the end of the year, these will be fun days where students will be engaging in some fun outdoor activities linked to our Grow Your Mind program. It will be a great way to finish off a very different year in Week 11.
Presentation Days
We are also busy preparing for our COVID safe presentation days to celebrate the learning achievements of our wonderful students. Stay tuned for further information about these two days. K-2 presentation is on 6 December and 3-6 presentation is on 7 December. These will be virtual events.
Student Parliament
Our Year 5 students will be presenting their election speeches on 1 December, following this we will hold our elections to determine the Prime Minister, Deputy Ministers and Ministers for 2022. We congratulate all students who are involved in this process and wish everyone all the best. All of our Stage 3 students are leaders in some way or another and we are looking forward to an amazing 2022 with this wonderful group of students.
Year 6 Farewell
Our Year 6 Farewell will be held on 8 December. Once again we will be holding this event in our School Hall. Our Year 6 teachers are busy planning to transform our hall into a beautiful wonderland and space to a celebrate the end of primary school with our amazing Year 6 students.
Cyber Safety
Stage 3 parents would have recently received a letter in the mail about Cyber Safety. We are concerned that our students are spending a great deal of time on devices, online games and social media and wanted to remind parents of the need to actively supervise their child's online activity. We are often dealing with the repercussions of at home, online behaviour at school. Online bullying is not acceptable and will be taken seriously and dealt with appropriately at school if required. Week 11 will be Cyber Safety Awareness Week for all of our Stage 3 students.
Wall Mural
Over the week our students have been amazed as the talented artist, Scott Nagy has been working on our Mural behind the hall. Keep an eye out on our school facebook page for progress photos.
Have a wonderful weekend and don't forget to ask your child what they are learning at school.

Learning and Caring with Pride - Mrs Whittles
This term, Prestons Public School, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me Survey.
All members of our school community are invited to have their say, this includes students, parents and staff.
The parent and student survey windows are now open. The focus of this NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. This is a great opportunity for parents and students to provide valuable feedback about their engagement with our school. This feedback will be used by our school to inform future planning to support strong community partnerships
More than 6, 300 schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell them From Me Survey to survey more than 5.4 million people. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/
The survey is confidential. It is conducted online and can be accessed by clicking on the following link: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/prestons
Students in Year 4 to 6 will have the opportunity to participate in the survey with their class in week 8 of this term. The survey is anonymous and will provide valuable student feedback on wellbeing, engagement and learning.
I understand that given the current situation, the survey questions may not seem applicable. There may be some questions around participation in school events that are not applicable due to current restrictions. I ask that you consider the questions carefully and answer them based on your overall experiences with Prestons Public School during face-to-face teaching and remote learning.
We appreciate your support and look forward to receiving your feedback about our wonderful Prestons Public School Community.

School Travel for 2022
Classroom Chat with 3 Sharks
Term 4 has been a strange time for Sharks. Being back at school has meant learning all our routines and learning habits again. One thing we all agree on, is that recess and lunch with our friends is much better!
One learning challenge we have undertaken is cursive writing. In handwriting, Sharks have started creating flicks and even joining letters. It takes a lot of practice, but that doesn't scare the Sharks. They are simply jaws-ome!
Classroom Chat with 4 Stingrays
This term in our English sessions, we are working on writing a good persuasive text. So far, we have been working on strengthening our paragraphs to convince readers of our points of view.
In Maths, we have been going outside and creating arrays to strengthen our multiplication skills.
Our favourite subject this term has been STEM. Every Friday we are conducting a STEM challenge. Last Friday we read “Mr Archimedes’ Bath” and then created baths of our own. We then tested how many dice each of our baths could hold. There were some surprising results.
You can see us hard at work in the pictures below and on SeeSaw.
