2020-21 Plano ISD Return Plan
Parent's Guide to the First Four Weeks of School
Plano ISD has prepared a comprehensive Parent's Guide to the First Four Weeks of School. Please take a moment to review this guide to learn about student expectations, attendance requirements and to view sample daily schedules.
Bell Schedule for 8/17 - 9/4
- Students will login daily for all classes each day whether they are learning synchronously or asynchronously. Beginning 8/25, students will complete a Google Form indicating their attendance for each class.
- On-time attendance at the times specified below are required for all synchronous lessons. Attendance is taken daily.
- Teachers will provide asynchronous assignments and learning opportunities that are required to be completed each Monday. Mondays may also be utilized for tutorials and club meetings. That schedule will be shared through teachers and club sponsors.
- Homeroom is required each Monday from 12:10-12:40. Students will attend synchronously with their 4th period teacher. Homeroom will not meet Tuesday through Friday.
- On Tuesday through Friday, students will only meet synchronously with their teachers for part of the day, either morning or afternoon depending on the class periods. When not scheduled for a synchronous lesson, asynchronous assignments and learning will be provided by the teacher.
Synchronous Learning is defined as two-way, real-time, live, instruction between teachers and students, through the computer or other electronic devices.
Plano ISD student expectations for synchronous learning:
Students attend class on time, per their class schedule.
Students will follow Plano ISD dress code.
Students are ready to engage and learn.
Students should have a designated, distraction-free workspace to engage in learning.
Students will show their face on the screen to engage with the teacher virtually.
Students will participate in the class activities, discussions and assignments.
Asynchronous Learning is a curricular experience where students engage in the learning materials on their own time, interacting intermittently with the teacher via the computer or other electronic devices. In this setting, teachers will provide instruction, learning resources and support through the use of Google Classroom.

Updated 2020-21 Calendar

At their August 4 meeting, the board approved moving the January 5, 2021, professional learning day to August 24, 2020, to provide an opportunity for more training on safety protocols related to reopening schools. Help Your Child Stay Organized!
In order to assist parents in encouraging their student to develop strong organizational and time skills, Jasper High School has developed a Weekly Assignment Tracker that students can utilize to plan their work for the week. This is an especially helpful tool for students as they organize independent, asynchronous work, and ready themselves for synchronous lessons. This will help your student have a one-page reference for all of their learning obligations for the week.

Secondary Student Email Access
In order to facilitate student and staff communications, all secondary students in grades 6-12 have been assigned a PISD student email address. Students should rely on this email, and not a personal email, when communicating with district staff. Visit https://www.pisd.edu/studentemail for more information on PISD student email access, safety, and helpful resources for email use. A "PISD Student Email" tile has been added to Webdesk for easy access!
Student ID Badges
VOE Requests
The district has developed an online process for students who wish to request a Verification of Enrollment (VOE) form. Students may make a request online at https://myforms.pisd.edu/Forms/VOE and the form will be completed and returned to the student via email.
Please plan ahead and submit your request at least 48 hours in advance of your need. Last-minute requests cannot be guaranteed.
Free and Reduced Meal Applications
Free and reduced meal applications are now available at www.schoolcafe.com/pisd. If you have never filled out a meal application, just click on “Create a New Account.” Student eligibility status from the 2019-2020 school year will roll over only for the first 30 operating days of school or until a new application has been processed. It is important that households complete an application for the 2020-2021 school year as soon as possible. Households should allow 10 business days for application processing.
