Hello Beckman Community!
I am so excited to be a Beckman Patriot⎼ it really feels like destiny. I was raised to be a dedicated New England Patriots fan, so I already bleed TRU-BLU!
Before arriving here at Beckman I completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree at Chapman University and worked for five years as a high school College/Career Counselor supporting students through the college/career exploration, planning, and application process. In my free time I enjoy staying active, watching sports (My husband coaches basketball at Chapman University), being crafty, listening to live music, and hanging out with friends and family. I look forward to meeting you soon!

AP Exam Ordering Change for this School Year
The College Board, creators of Advanced Placement, recently announced significant changes to the AP exam ordering process, deadlines, late fees and cancellation fees that will be mandated for all schools and all students in the 2019-2020 school year.
For the 2019-2020 school year, all exam registration will take place in October 2019. Information and cost for all exams will be released to students at the beginning of the school year. All students in AP classes, who register after November 2019, will be charged an additional $45.00/exam late fee. In addition, a $40.00/exam cancellation fee will be charged for any exam order canceled after November 15, 2019.
It is important that all families are aware of these changes, especially as students begin their 2019-2020 courses. College Board made the change to their timeline based on research data showing that AP registration rates and exam scores increased significantly when students registered in fall versus spring. More information on the changes can be found at https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/about-ap/news-changes/ap-2019?excmpid=mtg434-pr-1-vid.
We will share more information about the specific ordering process once students settle into their schedules.
Course Add/Drop
- District policy states that students wishing to make a course change have until the fourth Friday of the semester to request the change.
- Keep in mind that changes can only be made if space permits.
- We will not grant teacher change requests.
- Students wishing to make a change will need to complete an Add/Drop form and turn it in to the counseling office by Friday, September 6th at 3pm.
- Be mindful of the AP/Honors Course Limits policy when making change requests.
Wellness Corner
We are excited to continue our series of Lunch and Learn workshops for our students this year! The lunchtime workshops will focus on providing useful tips on managing academic stress, tips for academic success, and various mental health wellness topics.
We will also be continuing our series of Parent Wellness Education Meetings throughout the year. These evening sessions are free and will also focus on providing information and guidance for parent/guardians regarding their students’ mental health & wellness.
Senior Scene
Welcome back seniors! Your counselors hope you had a very relaxing and enjoyable summer vacation with your family and friends.
Now that school is back:
- Be sure to narrow your college list to include target, reach and safety schools and update your list in Naviance.
- Many of the schools you choose will be on The Common Application online. If so, register a Common Application account and get familiar with it.
- Continue to take the ACT or SAT as needed. Most colleges will accept through the December test date.
- We will be meeting with you through your Econ & Gov classes to go over your grad requirements including any classes to make up and/or complete like your VPA.
- Check to see if your college requires one or more teacher recommendations, and if so, be sure to ask your teacher in person and then add the request to Naviance.
Remember, senior year is your opportunity to transform from a young adult into a student leader.
Junior Junction
Career and College Exploration- Utilize Naviance and attend the College and Career Center events to start researching your options.

Sophomore Stop
- Visit the Counseling Haiku page for important updates & advice on how to make the most of sophomore year.
- School engagement is important. Encourage your student to attend a game, go to a dance or join a club. If they don't see one they like, they can even start a club!
- Once settled into classes, students should make an appointment to talk to their counselor about future plans.
- Make a plan to check Aeries regularly; know what is assigned and due.
Freshman Forum
- On August 2nd, freshmen attended an orientation hosted by Link Cru. Students participated in group activities to explore their strengths, get to know others, & build relationships & school spirit.
- Mark your calendars to attend the Ed Fund sponsored 9th grade B Prepared for High School Night on August 29th at 6:30 pm in the Performing Arts Center (PAC).
