Assignment Plan and Coffee With Camille
On Monday evening, October 7 at 5:00, we will have 'Coffee with Camille', an informal session where parents can come to ask questions and engage in discussion about any areas that you are interested in at the school. I think there may be a fair amount of questions around student assignment, so feel free to come on out, have some coffee and chat! We'll meet in the Media Center from 5:00-6:00.
Following that, we will have our monthly PTA board meeting, and and if people want to get an inside look at all the things we're planning and get connected... come check it out.
Boosterthon!
Parents and families—this year’s main fundraiser is the Wild Wild Willow Fun Run! It’s a two-week program that kicks off with a pep rally on 10/14. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps) at the Wild Wild Willow Fun Run, which will happen on 10/18 (T3) & 10/25 (T1,2,4). This year our goal is to raise $35,000 for Water Bottle Filling Stations & PTA Programming, and we need your help! We’ve asked the experts at booster to power our fundraiser to make it easier, more profitable, and more fun.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, Mindspark: Wild West! Booster’s most exciting theme yet combines S.T.E.A.M. skills (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) with character-building. While they're teaming up with the mindspark kids to save Dr. Shock, our students will learn five character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.
Donations will go toward Water Bottle Filling Stations & PTA Programming for this school year. So please help our school by getting pledges from family and friends and entering them on funrun.com. As always, all families are invited to come out and cheer on our students at the Wild Wild Willow Fun Run.
In advance, we thank you so much for your support!
Christmas From Home for Deployed Soldiers
This year, we are partnering with Military Mission in Action (MMIA) to show our support and appreciation to the deployed soldiers. The project is called Christmas From Home for Deployed Soldiers. They are collecting items to send Christmas Care Packages for these brave soldiers, who are away from home at the holidays. The specific items suggested are: DVD Movies, Travel Size Games, Books, Puzzles, Video Games, Playing Cards, Cell Phone Chargers, Hard Candy, Gum, Specialty Snack Foods, Jerky (no pork), Drink Powders, Protein Bars, Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Deodorant for female and males, Comfy Socks for females and Socks for males, as well as Amazon Gift Cards.
If you would like to join us in support, we will have a box in the lobby of the school, so you can just drop donated items right in the box. (For security, please drop gift cards off at the front office.) The final day for drop off is October 26th.
If your child would like to contribute, they can draw pictures and/or write a card to the soldiers and we will make sure they are delivered with the care packages. Please drop these off at the office or send in to your child's teacher.
Readvolution
Our goal at The Willow is for our students to read 2,020 books. This means each student needs to read 3 books between now and the end of November!!! Students will write the book titles on their puck and post it on the banner when they have completed their three books. As a parent, you can log in your child's reading (20 minutes each night) to receive tickets to a Hurricanes game at the end of the program... currently, there is a technology glitch and there is no parent log-in info to share, but we will be getting that out to you as soon as it is available. Please help us by encouraging your child to read daily and finish 3 books before Thanksgiving!! (No problem for our voracious Willow readers!!)
