HIV/ AIDS Prevention and Sexuality Education Parent Preview
Beginning in late October, middle and high school teachers, as well as student advocacy coordinators, will begin covering Sexuality Education and HIV/AIDS Prevention curriculum in 6th through 12th-grade science courses.
An overview of the age-appropriate content that will be presented to students can be accessed online at www.normanpublicschools.org/science.
District leaders recognize parents and guardians as the primary educators of their children and encourage parents to have discussions with their children about these topics. Parents who do not want their children included in the education lessons must complete this form and submit it to the school principal no later than Oct. 23. Students who do not participate will be given an alternative assignment.
For additional information please contact NPS Science Coordinator Jeffrey Patterson at 405-447-6578 or jefferyp@norman.k12.ok.us.

IXL update for all students
Longfellow has purchased IXL for all of our students to use this year. IXL is a comprehensive learning program offering unlimited math and language arts practice across thousands of skills—all of which are aligned to state standards. One of the best things about IXL is your child can access it from home, so you have a chance to see your child’s progress!
To get your child started on your home computer, please follow these easy steps:
1. Go to https://www.ixl.com/signin/longfellow
2. Enter your child's username and password and click "Sign in”
Your student should know their username and password, but if they don’t, in most cases it is the initial of their first name and their entire last name. Their password is their first and last lowercase initial and student id number (their lunch number). If you can’t access the program, please contact me at gailr@norman.k12.ok.us for assistance.
3. Click on any skill to start learning!
IXL is designed to help your child learn at his or her own pace. The program is adaptive and will adjust based on your child's demonstrated understanding of the material. All of your child's results will be saved, so you can monitor his or her progress anytime by clicking on Analytics. For on-the-go practice, you can download IXL’s free tablet apps for iPad, Android, or Kindle and sign in with your child’s username and password.
I hope you'll encourage your student to use IXL regularly. Here's to a year of working together to make learning fun for your child!
Sincerely,
Gail Richardson
