Are we doing it well?
Over the past few weeks, I've spent some time searching for a new car. In my search, I found myself looking for the perfect car but not paying attention to where the car was being sold. As I went in and out of several dealerships I could tell there was quite a difference. The difference was customer service, atmosphere, how well the building was kept-up. As I continued my search, found myself looking up the dealership rating. How was their customer service? Were they honest? How did others feel they were treated? My perception of who they were stemmed from online reviews. They all sold pretty much the same cars, all in the same ballpark in price but what separated the poor and average dealerships from the best? It was customer service, smiling, friendly, going the extra mile in all things. We too are competing with online reviews about our school.
The picture parents get is simply State Assessment scores and we know we are much more than a test. In the face of rising competition from charters and other alternatives, we in education have to be different. It is our ability to connect with students and parents that make us different. Our ability to have strong customer service, to go the extra mile with communicating and supporting our students. Hackberry does not have a formal approach to customer service but every staff member who interacts with parents or students–either in person, on the phone, or via email–performs some type of customer service.
Believe it or not...Like it or not...Among all the other things we do we are in the business of customer service! Let's all give this piece of our jobs as much effort as we do everything else, it very well may be the catalyst for making Hackberry GREAT!
