Oratia District School Newsletter
Week 6 - 1 September 2022
Message from Ms Linda
Tēnā koutou katoa. Nau mai ki te whānau o te Orātia. Zdravo. Talofa lava. Ni hao. Kia orana. Namaste.
Greetings Orātia whānau. Thank you thank you to all who came to the Fiafia last week, who helped make the uniforms, prepared and cooked the food, helped with the dressing of students and practising of songs and dances, and contributed to the event with donations and gifts. We could not have done it without our community of parents and families, who pitched in and worked together with our teachers and students. What a wonderful experience we all had that night. I am sure if your children took part in the event, they will remember it for the rest of their lives. The photos of the event in the newsletter are thanks to the skill of Dawn Holdsworth, who we thank very much for her time and support.
On Wednesday this week I had the pleasure of presenting certificates and trophies to our netball teams. This season we had six different teams of boys and girts representing Orātia School at Te Pai courts in rain and sunshine. Congratulations to all the players for taking part in a very cool team sport, and working together so well. Both our two Year 5/6 teams, Piha and Muriwai, won their final play off games, so big congratulations to them all. I especially want to thank the coaches and managers of the teams for their continued support and hard work for the benefit of our players. I also want to thank Janine Moore who has been the netball coordinator, based here in our school office, of all the teams. She has managed all the people and the organisation calmly and cheerfully, and I really appreciate her mahi.
Last Friday was our Staff Only Day and we had First Aid training for all staff. We all really appreciated the refresher on how to manage emergencies and first aid events. This will help all staff with our trips, events and times on duty in case of an incident.
Many thanks to you all for your partnership with us. Take care and stay well.
Kia kaha, kia atawhai.
Ngā mihi nui, Ms Linda

Rehu Tai West Auckland Cluster Speech Final
On Tuesday the Rehu Tai West Auckland Cluster Final was held at Oratia School. Our Kapa Haka group opened with a karakia and a waiata and then the five speeches got underway. The competition was fierce and we are very proud of Annabelle Nicholson for coming first with her speech on 'Too much rubbish'. When the winners were announced our kapa haka boys performed a tautoko to acknowledge them.
We wish Annabelle the very best of luck for when she represents the West Auckland Cluster of schools at the Rehu Tai Auckland final next Wednesday at Manurewa Intermediate.
Lunchtime gymnastics sessions
Mrs Lewis and Whaea Louise have been running lunch time gymnastics sessions for our Potiki and Arawhata students. It has been very popular and the children have really enjoyed practising their new skills.

Ant Infestation
On the weekend at my house we had an ant infestation. Lots of ants had moved in. My mum Sarah, tried to vacuum all the ants up, but a whole lot more came barreling in. So my mum tried to vacuum them up again and they finally stopped coming in.
Netball prizegiving
Yesterday we celebrated all our players, coaches and managers with a netball prizegiving in the hall. Well done to all our teams who worked so hard this season and proudly represented our school and a big thank you to our wonderful coaches and managers who gave up their time to support the teams.
A reminder to netballers, please return your uniform to Mrs Moore in the office if you haven't already. Thank you.
