Week Ahead for JPS Families

Week of May 18th

Hello Joyceville Families,

We would like to send a shout out to our amazing parent community - you are doing a great job! At times you might doubt this, but please know that whatever you are doing to support your child is enough. We need to acknowledge that there are challenges with being at home, working from home, working away from home and/or caring for your families and maintaining remote learning for your children. This is a lot, and we encourage each of you to pat yourself on the back for what you are doing!

We also want to pass along that if you and your children are experiencing challenges with remote learning, you are not alone.

We believe strongly that your most important role as caregivers at this moment in time is to maintain positive relationships with your children. If learning at home is a struggle, even in small ways, please reach out to your child's teacher or me. We are here to help and are happy to adjust as needed and provide addtional support where possible.

As Monday is a school holiday, no work will be assigned for that day. We hope you have a chance to unplug and enjoy the long weekend together.

Take care,

Mrs, Campbell and Mrs. Diamond

AMAZING RACE CANADA!

Now that the weather is getting nicer, let's get out there! We're going to see how far across Canada we can get! Your job is to exercise to do it! Here's the deal, 20 minutes of exercise will be the equivalent to 100 km. On the school Google Classroom, go to "Classwork" -> Amazing Race Canada. There you will find a Google sheet where you can put your child(ren)'s names or track as a family, the date and how many minutes you ran, walked or exercised! Do this as many times as you exercise! A tally will be done on Fridays and look for where we are in Canada on Monday's announcements!

Let's Make an "O Canada" video!

LET'S MAKE A VIDEO! Last call!
One of our students (Summer!) has made an amazing suggestion - that we record O Canada and send it to www.canadatogether.com #CanadaTogether. What an amazing idea! Here's what you need to do to help with the video:
- put your headphones on (you should hear the song, I should just hear you!)
- sing along with the attached clip - sing the whole song (I'll just be using snippets though)
- have a parent or sibling video you (I should just hear your voice, not the recording)
- send your video to Mrs. Diamond (diamondd@limestone.on.ca)
Mrs. D will take snippets from all your videos to try and create an anthem!
Let's see if it works!

The sound clip is on our school Google Classroom!

Maltby Centre

As the school closure and stay at home direction goes on, this can be difficult for students and their families. If you have noticed any concerning changes in your child's behaviour, the Maltby Centre is open and avaiable to help. Please see the link below for information on how to access supports.

We also have a School Support Counselor who can help you connect with community mental health resources. Please reach out to your child's teacher or Mrs. Campbell if you have any questions.
