Reading, Writing, and Word Study
Using Technology to Share Our Work
Student Work Samples
Reading
Students used Lino board instead of paper sticky notes this year. During two book club units, students were able to collaborate as a group, even when they were reading a book individually. To do so, they worked individually, as well as with their small group, to add sticky notes and pictures to their group board. They would then get together to discuss their findings and plan for their next meeting.
Writing
Students worked on writing their stories and essays in Google Docs. Templates were posted in Google Classroom, and then accessed by students. This allowed students the opportunity to collaborate with others, as well as receive comments and feedback from the teacher as they were working independently.
Word Study
Our class works on both vocabulary and spelling during word study time. Students used Showbie during Flocabulary (vocabulary) instruction to access their packets of information and complete classwork. Quizlet was also used as a way for students to study their words. They also used a variety of apps to sort their spelling words during Words Their Way (spelling) instruction. These apps include Pic Collage, Popplet, and Doodle Buddy.

The 12 Days of Christmas in Mrs. Landreth's Class
The 12 Days of Christmas in Mrs. Landreth's Class
The class worked together to create a "12 Days of Christmas" book. The students decided on the items, and then worked with a partner to create a page. The pages were put together in Book Creator, and the students recorded themselves singing to finish it off. It was a great way to spread holiday cheer and show others what we were doing in our classroom!

Santa Letters with Aurasma
Santa Letters Display Using Aurasma
Students wrote persuasive letters to Santa during our opinion writing unit. Then, they recorded a video of themselves begging for that item. The videos were added to the display using the Aurasma augmented reality app. Students, parents, and staff could download the app and watch the letter come to life!

Reading on the Epic Books app
At times, students can read books from the Epic Books app during independent reading. They are able to pick books at their level that interest them, and love being able to have such a wide variety of books at their fingertips.
Having Fun With Dr. Seuss and the Cat Cam app
Students created Chatterpix about Dr. Seuss. QR Codes were placed in the hall that took the scanner straight to the videos. Students also took pictures in the Cat Cam app, and turned themselves into a Dr. Seuss character!
KidBlog
Students have used KidBlog to write posts, as well as respond to questions written by the teacher.
