1. Absences during Exam Week

With the end of the first semester fast approaching, many of you have already begun to make plans for Winter Break. December 15th-18th, the 7th & 8th graders will be taking semester exams and 6th graders will take a Math test. Please consider this as you make travel arrangements. Keep in mind that it is important for students to be at school during exam week.

If you know that your child will be out during this time, please FIRST contact your child's counselor. Also, have your child pick up an Absence Request Form from the Front office and submit it two weeks prior to the expected absence to Ms. Landy in the front office.

2. Journey to Jag Country--Date Moved to January 7th!

Rice parents, please be aware that due to an inadvertent scheduling conflict, we are moving the date of Journey to Jag Country to Thursday, January 7. We want to make sure that all Rice students and parents are able to attend. Times will remain the same 6 pm to 7:15. Thank you for your understanding and more details about the night can be found below.

Calling the PWSH Class of 2020!

We hope everyone will plan on attending the Journey to Jag Country Thursday, January 7 from 6 pm to 7:15. Please note this date has changed to Thursday, January 7. We ask all Rice families to park in the south parking lot and enter the building from the South doors. You will be directed to the cafeteria for the meeting to start the evening. This is an opportunity for parents and students to learn all about what you have to look forward to in high school. During this evening, parents and students will have a meeting to learn how to better help their student transition to high school. Parents and students will also be able to get familiar with the campus. While walking around the campus, you will be able to visit with curricular class teachers, student groups and organizations, purchase spirit wear, and visit with the different booster clubs and PTSA. We hope you will not miss this chance to get your high school career off to a great start!!

3. Plano ISD Facilities and Technology Study Task Force Seeks Parent and Community Feedback

The Facilities and Technology Study Task Force, assembled by the Plano ISD Board of Trustees in August, is hosting a public hearing to gather community input as they evaluate district needs with regard to a possible bond initiative. I encourage our parent community to attend this public forum, as this will be your opportunity to provide feedback or ask questions related to the committee’s work of reviewing enrollment trends and projections, as well as establishing construction, renovation and technology needs. The hearing will be hosted as follows:

Facilities and Technology Study Task Force Public Hearing

Thursday, December 17, 2015, 6:00 p.m.
Plano Senior High School Doyle Dean Performing Arts Center
2200 Independence Pkwy, Plano, TX 75075

Speaker cards will be required from all who wish to speak at the hearing and will be available beginning at 5:30 p.m. through the end of the meeting.

Additional opportunities for input are available at the regular school board meetings scheduled for January 12 and February 2, 2016, and via district e-mail at askpisd@pisd.edu. For more information on the work of the Facilities and Technology Study Task Force, please visit the Plano ISD website at: http://www.pisd.edu/news/2016bond/index.shtml.

4. Attention Parents of 8th Graders--Scoliosis Screening

The state mandatory 8th grade Scoliosis screening is scheduled on 12/10/2015. The 8th grade students will be screened through PE classes in the gym. The parent letter is sent home with your student. If your child does not have PE class this school year, they will be pulled out and screened during one of their elective classes. If, for religious reasons, you do not wish to have your child screened, please contact Nurse Yang (serena.yang@pisd.edu) prior to the scheduled screening for further instruction.

Thank you very much for your cooperation.
