Recent Updates
EOG Testing
- EOG testing will continue Wednesday, May 31st.
- Click here to access our testing schedule.
- REMINDERS:
- Attendance and being on time is especially important on testing days!
- The test will be administered online. Students must bring their devices to school fully charged for all their assessments.
- We will start testing by 7:45. Students are allotted 3 hours to take the test and those with accommodations make take longer.
- Students will not have access to cell phones during testing. Any use of cell phones during testing is prohibited.
- Please do not check out your student before 12:00. Do NOT call your child asking if they are finished testing.
- Students should be encouraged to get a good night’s rest, so they come to school refreshed and ready.
- Students will have an opportunity to retest if they did not meet grade level proficiency AFTER the last day of school. We advise students try their best the first round of testing.
WMS Family Survey - Title I Budget Funds 2023-2024
- Our school has the opportunity to utilize Title I funding to meet various academic and social-emotional needs of our students. . Each year, we reach out to our families as we develop our Title I budget and conduct stakeholder surveys. Please take a moment to review the items our leadership team would like to include in the upcoming Title I budget as you complete this survey. Your input is greatly appreciated.

SCHOOL DRESS EXPECTATIONS MAY REMINDER
- Summer is approaching but dress code rules still apply.
- The Winston Salem/Forsyth County Schools have adopted a system-wide dress code. Students at Walkertown Middle are expected to adhere to this code. Parents are asked to familiarize themselves with the dress code as well. Students who come to school and are inappropriately dressed the first time will have to call a parent and have appropriate clothing brought to them. We also have a clothing closet with clean, school-appropriate items that students may use if needed. Additional violations of the Dress Code will result in administrative action.
- All students are expected to dress appropriately and in good taste for the school day, including after school activities. Students should not dress in provocative or revealing attire. Any article of clothing or manner of dress which is determined by the building administrators to materially or substantially interfere with the education process is prohibited.
The following items are prohibited:
1. Bare feet
2. Tank tops, spaghetti straps, strapless shirts, low cut, and tube tops.
3. Halter or bare midriff tops or bare midriffs
4. Provocative, revealing attire that exposes cleavage
5. Mesh shirts or open-sided shirts
6. Short shorts or skirts (need to come down to the middle of the thigh)
7. Underpants or bras showing or worn as outerwear
8. Clothing that contains advertisements for tobacco, alcohol, or drugs; pictures or graphics of nudity; words that are profane,
lewd, vulgar, or indecent
9. Hats, caps, hoods, bandannas or garments which cover the student’s face or conceal the student’s identity.
10. Pants, slacks or jeans that sag below the waist
11. Pajama pants, bedroom slippers or blankets
12. Any symbols, styles, or attire frequently associated with gangs, intimidation, violence, or violent groups about which
students at a particular school have been notified as described in AR 5131.4
13. Holes in the pants need to be at or below the acceptable length for shorts (see number 6)
We are specifically requiring that shorts be long enough to reach half way down your thigh. Students will be asked to
change out of any clothes that do not comply with this policy. We will be giving P.E. uniforms to students to wear
throughout the day. If your child asks to call home to have you bring a change of clothes for them to wear, we will allow
that, but we are not requiring it.
Repeat Reminders:
Gift Bags of Take Home Books for Our Students!
- Our school was fortunate to be one of the district schools to receive a free blue gift bag with 10 brand new books for our students to take home and keep. There are no assignments or grades attached to this gift, which came from the WS/FCS Secondary ELA department. The books are intended to be for students to have access to more books in the summer and for pleasure reading. \Most students received their bag this week and had an opportunity to trade books with classmates if they wished. They were both appreciative and excited overall. A few students will visit on Monday to receive their gift bag. Each bag is valued at approximately $90 and includes an assortment of middle grades novels from various genres. Many of the books are award winning titles. Here is a link to a website that features the books we received. The site also includes resources for families, journaling, information about SORA (ebooks, digital audiobooks, and 100+ free magazines accessible by our students). If a student would like to request an additional book he/she did not receive, here is a request form for that purpose. If you have questions, feel free to email Mrs. Webster at gcwebster@wsfcs.k12.nc.us. Thank you for encouraging your child to read! Home reading is a vital part of student success and life long learning!
Progress Reports & PowerSchool Parent Portal
- Progress reports were sent home on Wednesday, May 10th. We have just completed the fifth week in the fourth quarter. With a few days left it is vital you know where your student stands academically.
- If you have any questions about setting up your PowerSchool Parent Portal to check grades daily please call the school and ask to speak to Ms. Sharp.
- Parents/Guardians-your students can also show you their grades. All our students have been taught how to check their grades using their computer, so ask them to show you their grades every week.
CHROMEBOOKS AT HOME AND SCHOOL
PARENTS/GUARDIANS-we need your help! Please remind your students to charge their Chromebook every night and bring them to school ready for instructional use.
We are experiencing a significantly increased number of students simply not bringing their Chromebook to school. We need to address this concern immediately.
We do not have enough spare computers to let a sizable number of students borrow daily. Spare computers are for students who have a device in repair and an occasional issue.
