From the Desk of the Principal:
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Spring is right around the corner! We are continuing to focus on teaching and learning. I am very proud of the work that students and teachers are doing to ensure student growth. Please continue to support our school. Please review the essential learnings that your child's grade level has identified as key to your child's success.
A special thank you to everyone who attended our Math Day on February 28th. It was phenomenal You all had the best questions and observations. Shout Outs go to Ms. Ramet for planning our Math Day and Mrs. Biggers, district instructional coach, for supporting this special day.
Reading Connection Tips
Time for a story
Want to spend time with your little one, build his reading skills, and help him learn to love books? You can do all three when you read aloud. Here are suggestions.
Read regularly - 1. Try to read to your child every day. You might aim for 10 - 15 minutes of bedtime reading for a peaceful end to the day. Bring along a book, and read to him during a sibling's sports practice. 2. Take turns choosing books - Your child may want to hear old favorites again and again. Use your turn for new titles and variety,, such as nonfiction or poetry. 3. Let him participate - Ask your child to turn the pages while you read. Also, he can finish sentences that rhyme or fill in words he knows. Go slowly so he has time to understand the story and look at the illustrations. He'l enjoy read-aloud time more if he plays an active role. 4. Be playful - You can use different voices for different voices characters (a high, squeaky voice for a mouse or a deep. booming voice for a horse). Or substitute your child's name for the main character's name and use family members' names for other characters. Remember, you don't have to be an expert reader. Your child will love it when you read aloud because it's you.
If you have any questions about how you may support your child, please contact your child's teacher or an administrator.

PBIS- Positive Behavior Intervention Support
Our school celebrates student success everyday! We recognize our student hard work and allow them the opportunity to earn G.O.L.D. Stars.
G- Grow It!
O- Own It!
L - Lead It!
D - Dream It!
Here at Lesslie, we have a school wide goal for students to earn 12 or more G.O.L.D. Stars. They can receive stars from any staff/faculty member within the school. As a reward, we have implemented a PBIS Celebration for students bi-monthly.
This month, the celebration will be held on:
K-2: March 12th - 1:45pm-2:15pm
3-5: March 13th - 1:45pm-2:15pm
During the celebration, students will earn a special token and have a fun activity planned! Please encourage your child to work hard and earn G.O.L.D. stars so that they may attend the upcoming PBIS Celebration.
We welcome your attendance and support at our PBIS celebrations. Students should remain at school after the programs. In an effort to keep the spotlight on the students being recognized, siblings will remain in their classrooms.

It’s Cold & Flu (& Stomach Virus) Season!
While regular school attendance is vitally important for school success, the health of our children and staff is our first priority. We have already had numerous students and staff with the flu or other viruses. Please, if your child is ill, DO NOT SEND HIM OR HER TO SCHOOL. Your child cannot learn when he or she does not feel well and furthermore, sending your child to school when he or she is sick unnecessarily exposes other children and staff and spreads sickness to others. If your child exhibits any of these symptoms, please do not send him or her to school:
- fever of 100 degrees F or higher
- nausea or vomiting
- severe headache
- diarrhea
- red, watery eyes with yellow drainage
- undiagnosed rash
Children should stay home until they have been naturally without fever for at least 24 hours. Please do not give children fever-reducing medication and then send them to school. If you are called to pick up a sick child at school, please come quickly. If you know your child has been exposed to someone diagnosed with the flu virus, call your doctor immediately to find out what to do.
March is National Sleep Awareness Month Here are some tips for a better bedtime: Make a plan. Exactly what you do before bedtime is a mix of personal preference and practicality. Your routine might include a bath, brushing teeth, putting on pajamas, reading together, talking or saying a prayer. What matters most is ensuring the routine is soothing and consistent. Once you have a plan, write it down and share it with your kids (see our troubleshooting tips for more on this). Unplug and wind down. Long before his head hits the pillow, your child will need to start the process of winding down his body and brain, says Kim West, a family therapist who specializes in sleep issues. That means no caffeine and also "no screen time—that's computer, TV, video games, texting, even the iPod—for at least an hour before bedtime." Instead, think gentle play (take note dad, no tickle sessions before bed), reading or conversation. You might also try a warm bath or even sleep-inducing, kid-friendly yoga poses, says West. Set the mood. Aim for low lighting and soft sounds. If your child needs music to sleep, go with music only— no lyrics, says West. And aim to stay within the sleep environment by reading bedtime stories in his room—not yours—and resisting his pleas to "give the dog one more kiss," or do anything else that will have him leaving the bedroom, says Spivack. Stick with it Following the same routine nightly actually makes it physically easier for your child to fall asleep by giving his body cues to secrete hormones that induce sleep. And if your child knows you're a stickler for the rules, he's less likely to stall and delay, making bedtime smoother and more pleasant all around.
