The Principal's Ponderings
The last week of a successful school year has arrived. The week is full of events during the day. On Monday, the Seniors will have the opportunity to walk the halls of their elementary school. After that, they will take one last symbolic walk through CHS. The Senior Picnic will follow. On Tuesday, all students will be returning their chromebooks and chargers. There will also be an assembly Tuesday morning for Strive To Drive where a Spartan will win a car. Final Exams start on Wednesday. Click here for the schedule. Friday is an Early Dismissal Day (12:45).

Let's all benefit from coming to school. All students who have perfect attendance for the week will be entered into a drawing on Fridays for some free stuff.
Students must have perfect attendance each period, each day of the week in order to be eligible. This starts on Monday, April 9th and will last until supplies run out.
Strive To Drive
All students with perfect attendance will receive tickets to be placed into a hopper for the drawing on May 22nd.
Each Six Weeks = 1 ticket
Each Semester = 4 tickets
Whole School Year = 10 tickets

FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. You must complete this application to receive grants, scholarships, work study and/or loans for college. The FAFSA is also a requirement for the Burleson Opportunity Fund. The FAFSA is FREE Do not pay a third party site to fill out the FAFSA.

SAT/ACT
SAT/ACT-- As a general rule, Juniors should take the SAT & ACT in the spring of their Junior year. Students should then retake one or both of the exams before applications are due in the fall/early spring of Senior year.
If you are on Free/Reduced lunch, contact Mrs. Pair to get a waiver to take the SAT and ACT for free. You will also get four College Application Fee Waivers!

Seniors
Bring your acceptance letters and scholarship information to the College and Career Center. We want all acceptance letters and scholarship awards even if you are not planning on attending the school or accepting the scholarship. If you turn in multiple acceptance letters, please indicate on the letter which one you plan to attend.

Students are expected to check their Hill College accounts once per day. Communication from Hill College goes directly to the student.

Teen Dating Violence
Definition
Teen Dating Violence is defined as the physical, sexual, psychological, or emotional aggression within a dating relationship, including stalking.
● Physical-This happens when a partner in the relationship is pinched, hit, shoved, slapped, punched, or kicked.
● Psychological/Emotional-Threatening a partner in the relationship or harming one’s sense of self-worth with such actions as name calling, shaming, bullying, embarrassing on purpose, keeping partner away from friends and/or family.
● Sexual-Forcing a partner to engage in a sex act when consent for such is not given-can be physical or non-physical, such as threatening to spread rumors if action is refused.
● Stalking-A pattern of harassing or threatening strategies that are unwanted and cause fear.

● There is more than one type of dating violence
● Is also known as Intimate Relationship Violence or Intimate Partner Violence
● It can take place in person or electronically
● Many teens do not report it because they are afraid to tell friends and family
● Lifelong repercussions are possible
● Many prevention strategies are proven to prevent or reduce dating violence
● Youth exposed to domestic violence are at greater risk for being both a victim and the perpetrator of dating violence
● Can take place in person or electronically-repetitious texts or posting sexual pictures of a partner online
● Teens often think their partner’s behaviors are normal, like teasing and name calling, but they can become abusive and develop into more serious forms of violence
● 21% of female high school students who dated, and 10% of males who dated, reported experiencing physical and/or sexual dating violence
● Among adults who have experienced physical violence, rape, and/or stalking by an intimate partner, 22% of females and 15% of males first experienced some form of teen dating violence between the ages of 11 and 17
● Victims are more likely to experience depression and anxiety, engage in unhealthy behaviors (drugs, alcohol, tobacco), and think about suicide
● If victimized in high school, then higher risk of victimization in college
Who is At-Risk?
● Those who believe dating violence is acceptable
● Teens who are already experiencing, or have experienced, depression, anxiety, or other trauma
● Those who exhibit aggressive behaviors
● Use of substances
● Sexual activity that starts young
● Having multiple sexual partners
● Having a friend who is involved in a relationship with dating violence
● Conflict with relationship partner
● Witnessing or experiencing violence in the home
What Can You Do?
Healthy relationships share characteristics that should be expected, such as:
● Mutual respect-value each other and understand boundaries
● Trust-give each other the benefit of the doubt
● Honesty-builds trust and strengthens the relationship
● Compromise-partners cannot always have their way; acknowledge differing points of view
● Individuality-keeping friends and interests that were present before the relationship began
● Good communication-speak honestly and openly to avoid miscommunication
● Anger control-talk it out
● Fighting fair-sticking to the subject and avoiding insults
● Problem solving-talk it through
● Understanding what each other might be feeling
● Self-confidence-when partners have confidence in themselves, it can help their relationships with others
● Be a role model
● Healthy sexual relationships-neither partner should feel pressured or forced to engage in any activity that is outside his or her comfort zone or without consent

Community Resources Offering Summer Food Programs
Parents,
As summer quickly approaches, we have a couple of Community Resources that are offering Summer Food Programs for families in need. Many of our students eat breakfast and lunch at school throughout the year and when summer hits, their families are in a pinch. If you, or someone you know, is in need this summer helping to feed their family, the information is below. This is open to all BISD students, but they must register for the service. Harvest House will provide an extra kid friendly food bag each month. Promises will provide kid friendly food items each Tuesday from 1:00-3:00 pm. These services begin June 5th.
